Clint's Story
Life
In May of 1980, (8 years after high school graduation, and 2 years after college) a major change occured in my life. I was managing a restaurant in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Working in this restaurant was one waitress who was distinctly different than the rest. One evening, while I was doing paperwork shortly before closing, I sat in the restaurant. Nearby sat the only other customer, a policeman, sitting at the counter and being waited on by this unique waitress.
The waitress was talking to the policeman and they were bantering back and forth about what difference (or not) that God made in the world. The policeman argued that God couldn't be real because the world was so bad, and she argued something to the contrary. Since it was closing time, the waitress got in the last word..."why don't you read the book of John in the Bible?"
I don't know whether the policeman did or not, but having overheard the conversation, I went home and dug out my bible that I had received in high school, and looke...Expand for more
d up the book of John. As I read through the first three chapters, I began to realize that God had been there all along, but it was me who was moving away. In fact, I felt the conscious recognition that I had rejected Him all of this time. I knew that I had to talk to God. I asked Him to forgive me for rejecting Him and asked Him to change my life. I wept bitterly as my soul poured out all of the pent up rejection of God's love I had lived.
In 1985, I met my wife Jennifer at a bible study at my home. We both felt a call to full-time ministry. After our first child was born, we packed our bags and moved to Ft. Worth, Texas to attend Seminary. This took 10 long years to complete, but for us it was a training ground for growth.
I was an associate pastor at two churches before moving to Ohio back to the home where I grew up. Here a small local church called me to be their pastor, and we have all grown as a result! We now have 2 great children, one who is attending CSU and the other is in 12th grade.
