Clyde's Story
Dear Classmates,
It has been a busy three and a half decades or so since I last saw most of you. For those who do not like long stories, here is a Readers Digest style condensed version. I skipped college initially and went to work in food manufacturing right after graduation. Married at 22, divorced by 25. Spent most of the 80s and early 90s living life as a bachelor, working during the day and playing with countless rock and roll bands at night (no, you have never heard of any of them). Went back to school part time at 27 and discovered I really love to write (more on that later). Got married again for the second (and last) time at 36. This summer we will be celebrating our 20th Anniversary in our and they lived happily ever after storybook. Four grown children, all married with families of their own, grandchildren currently at eight and counting. One 17-year-old daughter still at home and planning to leave for college next year. After leaving the Bridgeview/Justice area lived in Merrillville, Indiana for about five years before heading south in 98, trading in the snow and cold of Chicago for the sunshine and warmth of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Had the ultimate love/hate relationship with Myrtle Beach. Loved living there, hated working there. Moved to southeast Georgia in 2003 for career reasons. Job count at six and holding. Spent 22 years in food manufacturing doing pretty much everything including entry level, sanitation, mixer, fork lift operator, machine operator and line mechanic. Promoted to team leader the last seven years there and also did a couple of temporary stints as a shift coordinator. Since then I have been a hotel maintenance supervisor, quality c...Expand for more
ontrol coordinator for a cable manufacturer, slot machine technician on a casino boat and a maintenance technician in a poultry processing plant. Currently working as a field service representative for a great Fortune 100 company. It has been seven years and counting and I love my job. Since hanging up my rock star aspirations, I have also found moderate success as a freelance writer in my spare time. I have had several runs with local and regional entertainment magazines in SC and GA as an entertainment columnist, music reviewer, interviewer and feature article writer. I have also done a little bit of sports coverage for a small, weekly newspaper. Earlier this year, I realized the ultimate writers dream with the release of my first book, Stiffing the Working Class; Welcome to Third World America, published by Algora Publishing in NY, NY. The book chronicles the problems associated with quickly disappearing middle class jobs that pay livable wages and is based primarily on my own working experience. My book was recently stocked in Bridgeview Public Library, which was one of my biggest thrills to date with this whole experience. If anyone is interested in more information just goggle Stiffing the Working Class. You will get a couple of pages full of links to my website, Face book pages, Linkedin, my authors page on my publishers website, links to my book on Amazon and other bookseller sites and more information than you could ever want to know about me. One final note: I know this passage is littered with grammatical errors, including but not limited to, numerous sentence fragments. This was done intentionally for the sake of brevity. (How is that for fancy writing. LOL)
