Clyde's Story
What's my story? Well after high school, after I had done everything I could to ruin my life (most people thought I would end up in a stripped jump suit with numbers across the front), I joined the Army in July of 67. Went to Fort Polk, then to Fort Leonard Wood for training to be a construction machine operator (dozers, scraper, graders, and front loaders). After thet I was sent to Germany. I arrived in Germany in December of 67. I was stationed there until November of 69, only came home once in September of 69. A lot had changed, so asked for a European discharge. Well Uncle Sam had different for me, so I came down on orders for Nam. Made it as far as Fort Lewis and got a medical hold put on me. I had fractured my wrist in Germany and was about to get it repaired when my orders came in. Ended up in Fort Hood and was discharged from the Army in May of 70. I received an early out (66 days) to attend a school to learn computers. Oh yea, I got married in March of 70 to a girl from Pearland. I donâÂÂt recommend girls from Pearland. My oldest daughter was born in April of 71, filed for divorce in January of 72. I donâÂÂt think we liked each other very much. I didnâÂÂt know she was expecting a baby when I filed, so I had to wait until after he was born before I could proceed with the divorce. My son was born in September of 72. During...Expand for more
this time I had completed the computer course and was working at Methodist Hospital as a computer operator. Shortly after completing the course I changed jobs trying find a position as a computer programmer. I did land a job as a programmer, but it wasnâÂÂt until August of 76. After my divorce I met and married again. We had two daughters. We stayed married until her death in 2003, she died from breast cancer. In 2005 I married again to an old friend I knew before I met my second wife. She passed in 2011 from End Stage Renal Disease. I still work in the Information Technology field at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. I have been there for 16 years. I do database administration on Oracle databases. In 2009 my third wife and I adopted my oldest grandson. His mother just wouldnâÂÂt get her life together and he needed a father and mother. I have mostly raised him since he was born, so if seemed the right thing to do. Currently my boy goes to school in Alvin and plays football for one of the Jr. Highs. He played little league football for 5 years, so does all right. I coach little league football. After 42 years in computer industry, I still enjoy working with them. I have six grand children, 5 boys and 1 girl. Not much of a story, but some where in there I had lots of fun. Some of it I canâÂÂt talk about and some would just be bragging.
