Colin's Story

Life My life bio....hahahahaha......that's funny. Not enough time or space to write about the last 20 years of my life. I can sum it up pretty easy though. Been in the Marine Corps since high school. Married my high school sweetheart and we have two beautiful kids, Nick and Avery. Nick will start next year at Marcos and is a super star wrestler, that boy is my hero. Our daughter Avery will start the year after that and she's sure to be the popular one with everybody. Got divorced in 97 and won't throw stones cuz she's a great woman, we just had our differences. Got remarried and had two more wonderful children. Unfortunately, she wasn't prepared to be married to a Marine and the marriage was short lived. We won't talk about that. Now I'm in Yuma getting ready to retire at the end of the year. Waiting to see what life has in store for me as a civilian. I thought I was gonna stick around for the 30 year retirement, but my brother retired last year from the Corps and now I'm jealous so I gotta do it too. Don't know if civilian life can accept me, but we'll find out. Just looking forward to spending the rest of my life close to my children and family. Anyone got a good job opening for an experienced aviation manager? Military Coming to a close on an eventful 20 year career as a Marine. From Private to Master Sergeant, I must say, it's been fun. Went to boot camp right out of school. Spent two years in California working on helicopters. While there I deployed twic...Expand for more
e to Okinawa, the Philippines and Korea. After my last tour in Okinawa I received orders and left California to work at the Presidential Flight detachment in Quantico, VA. working on helicopters for four years. Went on from there to be part of the Special Military Security Force for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the National Military Command Center in the Pentagon. Did that for a year then found myself in Yuma, AZ. I worked at VMA-214 as a Aviation Life Support Systems Division Chief and a Mainteance Controller and completed my third tour of duty aboard the USS Tarawa in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Strike, also visiting Jordan, Oman, Qatar, Jabal Ali, Thailand and the Philippines. Did that for two years and ended up working for the President for another two years before returning to Yuma. Came back here in 2000 and was the Division Chief for the Aviation Life Support Systems division for the base. In 2003 I deployed aboard the USS BonHomme Richard for six months during the intial stages of Iraqi Freedom and got to visit Australia on the way home. I was promoted to my final rank in Feb 06 and was reassigned as the Aviation Maintenance Chief for VMA-311 here in Yuma. Just completed my fifth overseas deployment to Japan, Okinawa, the USS Essex and the Philippines. Just decided last week to submit my paperwork for retirement and plan on moving back to Tempe. Don't know what I'm gonna end up doing, but when November gets here and I retire.....well I hope to have an idea.
