Colleen's Story
Graduated in June '74 and left for the Army in November. That was a fun two years! Went to Ft. Jackson, SC; Ft. Dix, NJ; Munich, Germany and Heidelberg, Germany. As much as I hated being home, I missed the family and finished my two years and came back to Minnesota.
Dad was sick with colon cancer and lost the fight in May '77. I started working at the phone company, Northwestern Bell in April and stayed there until 2005!
Changed departments and jobs within the company, survived the big split and ended up with the yellow pages. Got laid off in September 2005.
I moved out '78 and moved in with Carm and her son, my godson, Troy! Those were the days. Me & my Rally Nova with a car seat in the back!
Best thing about the phone company was I met my husband Kenn there! We were an office fling that's lasted the test of time and 33 years this past May!
We have two boys and live in Robbinsdale. Our oldest Clayton is now 28 and cooking for the lunch crowd at the old Lutheran Brotherhood. He blessed us with a grandson in December of 2002. ...Expand for more
Lucas is the love of our lives! Because his mother is not in the picture we have become the village helping raise him.
Our youngest, Nathaniel is 25, married to a wonderful gal and living in Waseca working at Brown Printing.
Mom stayed on the Drive until January 2007 when we had to get her hospitalized and then moved to a nursing home. My sisters & I worked all of 2007 on the house getting it ready for mom to come home, but when that wasn't going to be we got to sell it. That was not fun. 2 agents and nine months on the market and dropping the price. We finally got it sold to a darling young couple who are going to love that house as much as we did.
I am out of work again, and not enjoying looking for work at my age! I turned into an Excel geek somewhere along the way and want a quiet job making spreadsheets! Busy with a lot of community work in Robbinsdale and love it!
Never did find a job so I'm going to make my own and start a business designing simple, affordable web sites for small businesses. Check out Dragonfly Designs Web!
