Colleen's Story
I have done many things in the 36 years since leaving Alameda High. At the moment I am volunteering at Colfax Elementary School at Tennyson and Colfax. All my 20 years of training and experiance as an adolesent counsoler did not prepare me for what goes on in the neighborhood just a couple miles from my home.
My husband of almost 30 years works for SimplexGrinell as a service tech. He is from Virgina and fell in love with Colorado back in 78 when he was stationed at Lowery Air base. When he got out of the Navy he insited that we return, so here I am back in my old neighborhood.
I have 2 sons both of which spent some time at Alameda High. My oldest has worked in the food service business for 10 years and is now starting a catering company...Expand for more
with a friend. My youngest has been making a living from painting and drawing but is now going back to school to be a pastor.
UPDATE
My oldest son now has a successful contracting business and is still part owner of the catering business. My youngest is married and gave me a wonderful Chistmas present, another grandchild. They are living in Alaska where he is continueing his studies.
2012 was a very hard year for me. While working at school I contacted a bacteria that settled into my left breast and tight ankle. I lost half of the breast and my foot and ankle. I have now gotten a new foot and am learning to walk with it. I spent 9 months in the hospital and rehab. It is my goal to make it to Alaska this summer to see my grandson.
