Collette's Story
Life
After graduation I became married, had two children and was divorced. My children are young adults now and I am still single. I have travelled to the countries of India,Thailand, Haiti, Israel and Kenya Africa to work with poor families, street kids and AIDS orphans. I currently volunteer to work with teen moms and homeless people to provide support and encouragement to them. I just recently came back from Rwanda and Souh Africa boy was that trip exciting!!
School
My biggest crush my first year of high school was on a young junior varsity football player whose initials are AT and that same year I also had a crush on another football player who was a senior with the initials BM. Teachers who inspired me most were Mr. Todd and Ms Roob. Mr. Todd was the only teacher who ever called my mom when I ditched his class. He taught me about responsibility, government and politics. Ms Roob said that I could be anything I wanted to be and provided a reference letter for my first job. I will never forget that! Happiest moments were pep rallies on the front steps, orange/black streamers all year round and of course the sunken gardens!
College
I attended Metropolitan State College immediately after graduation so I never experienced the dorm scene. (I did have the opportunity to live that expereince vicariously while my son attended CSU.) I dropped out of Metro after a year and a half. Took online and night courses to get my associates degree in early childhood education. I realized a bachelors degree was needed so I went back to Metro 20 years later in 1998 and obtained bachelors degrees in Social Work and Sociology. Worked full time and went to school full time to earn my Masters degree in Social Work in 2003. Even though I didn't do the dorm scene I can still relate to sleepless nights working on term papers.
Workplace
Flipping burgers and fast food were never work experiences for me, Thankfully! I started out working in a daycare center and worked my way up to...Expand for more
teaching Kindergarten. Next career was in Social Work. I was employed at Denver Department of Human Services as a Social Worker in the field of Child Protection. I currently am employed at the University of Denver as a Child Welfare Trainer which blends my experience in Child Welfare with my love of teaching. I now have an office but there are days I miss the socialization around the cubicle area but I love being able to close the door in my office for phone conversations!
Military
No military service but God bless those who have. Even though I am anti war, I have had many friends in Iraq serving their country. I have also worked with Viet Nam vets and have heard their experiences first hand so I salute all of you brave men and women who served this country!
I always wanted to be a President of USA when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were right .
I never get that angry to blow off steam. My favorite way to relax is a long bubble bath!
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have satisfaction, support, and self efficacy to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
Martin Luther King Jr was a great man!
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Mr Todd, because I turned out okay.
Football it's all about the game!
That they are all individuals and need gentle guidance!
If I won $100 million, I'd give 10 million of it to my church, then spend the rest on my family, ministries and schools.
My current age is 48. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be 60. I was so completely wrong.
Want to work full time in Africa
My best friend would tell you I'm outgoing, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as shy.
I love fashion old school rocks,40's and 50's are my favorites
In 10 years, I hope to be in Africa. I'm going to get there by praying.
I got my first puppy Whitey on Christmas she was all wrapped in a red bow which she chewed half off.
