Connie's Story

Life Moved to Anchorage, Alaska where I married James Bennett, a psychologist. We lived in the Alaskan Bush for a year. There I did subsitute teaching, learned how to tan moose hides and ice fished in the Kuskoquim River in 80 below 0 weather! I worked in Prudhoe Bay (nearly the most northern point in the US) for a while before moved to Anchorage where I opened a restaurant-A Taste of Heaven-voted Anchorage's finest restaurant right before we had to close our doors. Not willing to give up on my loyal clients, I began Saucy Sisters Catering - catering gourmet functions up to 10,000 people. I took classes with James Beard, Julia Child, Jacques Pepin and others. I opened a cooking school in conjunction with my catering business where I gave lessons and brought famous chefs to teach. Meanwhile, my family moved to Alaska to work with me. My sister, Cherie, met her husband there and I have two incredibly beautiful, intelligent nieces. Saucy Sisters Catering incorporated in 1986 under Good Taste, Inc. when we expanded into airline catering and grocery store supply of various fresh salads and home-cooked meals; flower business and interior design company. I was named Small Business Person of the Year for the State of Alaska and the Western Region of the United States. I formed a real estate holding company in 1989-Flamingo Properties-purchasing apartment complexes/commercial property. I divorced James in 1989, the same year that my mother died of cancer. I led the first successful political recall campaign in Alaska history-a process that lasted a year of my life! I briefly considered a foray into politics before my brain went back into action! I lived in Mt. Shasta, California for a year while my partner and I designed and built a meditation garden that we opened to the public. I began a heart-opening - a spiritual trek - that has taken me to nearly 40 countries (some more than once). Some of the high points; studying/initiatio...Expand for more
ns with the Dali Lama, meditting on the top of Mt. Sinai, bathing in the Ganges River at Varanasi, being with the King of Cambodia in a rural mountain village, the Santiago dei Compostella, sunrise at Manchu Pichu. I am writing a book of my experiences traveling to sacred sights of all faiths/beliefs and doing spiritual counseling/life coaching. I also take groups to special places in the world, leading meditations. I have a house in Assisi, Italy and Anchorage, Alaska and a temporary apartment in Paris, France. I moved to Italy five years ago. I consider that these are places to rest my head and they provide me bountiful beauty but the entire world is my true home. I spend most of my time in Assisi, Italy when I'm not traveling-finding it both peaceful and practical for my travels. I continue to study Italian - a life long necessity I'm afraid. I enjoy reading, visiting with my friends from around the world, writing, walking, designing and making art boxes/figures, mosaics and entertaining/cooking. I married again (7 yrs) and divorced. I've made lots of money and lost a lot of money - I've made good decisions and not so - I've experienced deep sadness - I lost a baby girl just weeks before she was to be born two years ago- I've been given many professional and charitable honors- my family is and always has been tremendous and supportive...even when their older sister "speaks" to angels and is able to see the future! I've been blessed to see and to have done things that most only dream of - I see every decision as a step to remembering who I am and a choice in expressing who I am. Writing this has brought pictures of the faces of those I attended school with - the memories are not the happiest in my life-but there are those that bring a smile to my face. For any of those people who were responsibile for those smiles - Thank You. If I did or said anything to hurt anyone, I sincerely apologise. I wish all a good life.
