Connie's Story

After Carbon High, I graduated from C.E.U. in 1966 and B.Y.U. in 1968. I earned my M.Ed. in 1992 and completed the coursework for my Ed.D. in 1995. I taught for three years and then stayed home when our four children were small. We had foster children for a while (21) and reared one (a distant cousin) from age 14 to graduation. I returned to work in 1981 and retired two years ago from the school system after 30 years in the trenches. I taught and was an administrator for all grades, K-12. I served as a volunteer ambulance attendant for 11 years and was a member of the Control Board for the Utah State Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste for two years. Don McCourt and I have been happily married for almost 40 years. We have 5 children and 12 grandchildren with a set of twins (boy and girl) and another girl due in May. Don had all three types of polio when he was very young but was able to work as a heavy equipment mechanic, electrician and hydraulic specialist in the coal mines for 20 years. He retired on disability in 1995 and has been able to remain active now that he isn¿t doing such heavy work. We take care of Don's father who will soon be 91 and...Expand for more
is still living in his own home. We also help with our grandchildren as needed. We are continuing to remodel our home and take care of our large garden. We are both very involved with church duties. Since I retired, my sister Christine and I have helped Mom write her history, Mud Between My Toes (140 pages with 400 photos) which we printed for family only. Then we helped Dad write his history titled Above the Clouds, the story of an American Entrepreneur (268 pages with 168 photos) which we published professionally. The learning curve was steep as I formatted both books for publication. During the last four years, we have toured Alaska, the British Isles, and Branson and Nauvoo with Don¿s dad and sister and brother-in-law and enjoyed our trips immensely. Our newest granddaughter was born a year ago with serious problems so we have stayed close to home since then to help with her four siblings. She is thriving and is a joy to all of us with her brilliant smile and playful disposition. We deeply appreciate the Lord¿s blessings in our lives. We are happy and reasonably healthy and are surrounded by loving family and friends. We couldn¿t ask for more.
