Constance's Story
After high school I got married and divorced (from Mark Stelmas) pretty quickly. The folly of youth; I was too young and immature to be a good wife. It was the 70s!
I also didn't consider the importance of college (stupidity of youth?). It took me a long time to get my undergraduate degree working fulltime and schooling part time, but I finally did it! I graduated from Northern Ill. with a bachelor's in biology. In the 90's, I decided to go back for my masters. I graduated from Univ. of Michigan's School of Information in 1999. The masters was worth the work and sacrifice, because today I have a much better career because of my efforts. You are never too old to go to school.
While in college, I met my current husband, Alex; we married in 1981. After our children were born, we left Dekalb, Illinois for Ann Arbor, Michigan where we lived for 4 years. We then moved to...Expand for more
the Boston area for 4 years and when the opportunity arose, we moved back to Ann Arbor with our school-age kids.
We have a wonderful life. Alex worked at Warner-Lambert (which was then taken over by Pfizer) until he retired in 2003. Now he does consulting in the pharmaceutical industry. I work at the U. of Michigan Medical School as the Chief of Staff. Our sons are grown. Syd graduated from Eastern Michigan and is a biochemist working in a laboratory at UM. Rob graduated from Albion College and is starting his own business with a friend from high school.
I'm in a good place now. Alex and I enjoy traveling and try to take a big trip once per year. I'm 56 now and starting to think about my own retirement but I'll stick it out with the current dean and not retire until he does.
I have lots of photos on the web. I'll share the link sometime.
