Cooki's Story
Okay so for what seems like forever I've been reading the message boards checking out the profiles, waiting for someone from the Class of '66 to post something. What did I read, zippo, nada, nothing? We can't have been that boring a graduate class can we, surely somebody remembers something for those four years? Than the light bulb went off......."Why the heck don't I write about something"? So here goes MEM'RIES......."Light the corners of my mind, Misty water-colored memories". Just couldn't help myself.
Music, dancing, the dances at Archbishop Molloy High School, Sundays (I think it was 2x a month) at Chellis Hall, part of Mary Immaculate Hospital. I loved those dances but I was always afraid no-one would ask me to dance. First off I was always quiet, I didn't exactly have a clique that I was a part of, I was always on the fringes. I also wasn't the type that bloomed into a well figured gal (stacked for those who don't get it); I was tall, all legs and arms, no chest, no...Expand for more
hips. Boy, I bet we all wish we could say that these days. I digress, everyone seemed to have a boyfriend someone either that carried over from grammar school or someone from their neighborhood, or from the bus. "Going steady" rings were always hidden somewhere and me I held a torch deep inside my heart, always hoping HE would be at the dances especially the Chellis Hall ones. He was, I ached but consoled myself with dance. FYI years later he asked me to marry him but that's a book in itself. Since I loved to dance and I was rather good at it, I figured that on top of being built like a stick and as quiet as I was all alone on the fringe that just added to the terror of "would anyone ask me"? But still I loved those dances does anyone else remember them? Can anyone remember the name of the band that always played them? They played at both Chellis Hall and Bishop Molloy and later on at Community Gardens. Community Gardens, more memories, but I'll save those for another time.
