Corine's Story

Life When I was in school you knew me as Corine Sibley. My married name is Emerson and I now go by Cori (nickname) that was given me by a boyfriend in College. I attended St. Catherine Of Sienna School from the 1st. thru the 8th. grades and Central Catholic High School for the first two years. In 1959 my parents moved the family to San Bernardino, California and I graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1961. We were the 2nd. graduating class so it was quite small. I went on to San Diego State College (now San Diego State University). After college I married and had three children from my 1st. husband; we parted ways when our children were 8 weeks. 1 and 2 years old. I was a single parent for 13 years and then married Michael and we had one child. Michael was Superintendant of Schools in Newport Beach, California and took an early retirement in 1988 to move to Oregon. He had been diagnosed with advanced emphasema; Michael passed away in July of 1993. I worked for the Eugene School District where I met my current husband who also worked there. We retired in December 2002 and moved back to Southern California in October 2003 where we currently live in Carslbad. I have nine grandchildren who are the joy of my life. Orville and I are very active in our Church and sing in the choir. We enjoy traveling, especially taking cruises and we own time shares in Puerto Valarta and Cobo San Lucas. Besides this we do a lot of sailing with my sister and brother-in-law, so most week-ends in the summer you find us at the Yacht Club or out sailing when we can get a good wind. We are currently care givers for my 90 years old father who has Alzheimer's; it is a fulltime job, but we so enjoy having him with us. On his good days we play cards with him and laugh at his stories from his childhood and early adulthood, on his bad days he sleeps most of the day (I mean like 23 hours) only getting up to take his meals. I also took care of my mom (she was terminal and we were on home hospice) for 2 and half years, she passed on Nov.9, 2009. We still try to get time for ourselves with the help on my 45 yr. old son who lives about a mile from us. When we go on vacations, he and his wife will come and stay with dad, or I have my brother come out from Nevraska so that we can get an R&R a couple of times a year. School I think my biggest crush in elementary school was Mike Malloy. In high school it would have to have been Gene Bush. wer High - Mr. Matuschka (Psychology Teacher & Counsler) College In College my roommate and best friend was my Sorority Sister Carol H. - The food at the cafeteria was actually not TOO bad, but the food in the Sorority House was the very BEST. Well - there were definitely ALL NIGHTERS, and I do remember just throwing on a raincoat over my P.J.'s and taking that term paper in just in the nick of time. I recall my first boyfriend in College; he was a surfer (I mean really a surfer) totally beautiful with blond hair, blue eyes and a smile that would kill. He even drove a WOODY and carried his surf board in the back hanging out the rear window. He grew up in Point Loma California and I remember that he actually set up his classes so he could hang ten every day. P.S. He was an awesome dancer too. We even hooked up again after College and dated for awhile, but Vietnam came and went and we lost track. I hope is came home! Workplace Over the years I have worked in the Accounting Field as Office Manager. I spent many years working for a Manufacturer of Mobile and Modular Homes as a Decorator and then Office Manager. After I moved to Oregon I worked for the School District in the Accounting Department. After I retired and moved back to Southern California I returned to work after two and a half years and worked for a Mortgage Broker until April 2008, but I am now fully retired and loving every minute of it. All in all I guess I have worked about 40 years. Since three of my grandchildren live only a mile away, I am lucky enought to spend some real quality time with them and since the twins, Aidan and Tristan are 6-1/2 and their little sister Kamrym is 2-1/2, they keep grandma feeling forever young. I have one other granddaughter 8, who lives in Dana Poin, Ca. but the other five still live in Eugene, Or.; they are the children of my 31 and 44 year old daughters. Maka Marie is 15, Austin Michael is 13 they are Theresa's children. Shawna, my 31 year old has Brycen 12, Ella Jean 2-1/2 and Sadie Marie now 7 months. I usually travel to Eugene about twice a year to visit, but it really isn't enough. I really do love being around my grandbabies. So, here we are and it is June 24th, 2010 and we are going to be celebrating our 50th. anniversary of our graduation in 1961. We have lost many of our fellow classmates in death, in wars, and just because we didn't keep in touch. I love keeping in touch and renewing old friendships, so if you are reading this, please don't be shy, e-mail me and let's renew our friendship, live is toooo short.
