Corinna's Story

Well, since my days at The Clem I have been here and there. I married in 1984 to Marvin Baumgarten and have we have been together since. He is a graduate of Richmond High School, 1979. We have 3 beautiful daughters, Teila 24, Sandra 22, and Kari 20 who have also given us a couple son-in-laws in the recent past. We did live in Michigan, anywhere from one of the suburbs of Detroit (which name has escaped me at the moment), all the way up to Big Rapids, then in 1991 we followed my husbands mother to Oilton, OK, after his father died, which has been our home ever since. Now if you ever come to visit Oilton, it is very small and if you blink, you will miss it for sure. Actually, you would not believe all the Michiganians out here. They are everywhere. I moved to Oxford MI after graduation and now work with a woman who grew up there!! Weird, huh!!?? Other than a few odd jobs here and there, I mostly just stayed home to raise our children. Now, if anyone of my friends back in the day would have told me I would go to school to be a nurse, I would have told them flat out that they were full of you-know-what, BUT, today I am an LPN working on my RN. I waited until our kids got old enough, and with a little encouragement from my sister-in-law and a good friend I worked with when I was a CNA, I went to school for a year and have been working as a nurse since 2000. I only lack 2 semesters from getting my RN, but I took a break to enjoy my new grandson, who is now 16 months old, but my oldest is expecting our 2nd grandson in August. So I told my husband, that I wanted to be around, (not too busy) for the second grandchild as well and promised to finish next year (2009). My grandson, Kamarion, is the light of my life. He belongs to our youngest daughter who married July 2006. It is true what they say, "If I'd have known how much fun grandchildren are, I would have had them first!" He is so full of life and energy, and he keeps me hopping. His love is tractors and he loves to ride on papa's tractor with him. Actually he loves to ride on anything that has a motor and 2-4 wheels. We recently bought a go-cart and 4 wheeler and he has to have his...Expand for more
turn on those and today he took a short ride on his Grandma's motorcycle with his papa for the first time. He is all boy, for sure, no fear at all. Teila, our oldest daughter is expecting her first son in August, Austin James. We are very excited because she has had several miscarriages and we thought maybe her chances of having a child were not very great. But, God has blessed her this time and we cannot wait for him to arrive. She married in Feb. 2005. Sandra, our middle child, well she is her own person, not really interested in getting married at this time, just working and enjoys doing her own thing with no one to really answer to but herself. She recently moved into her own apartment which leaves us with what they call "empty nest". What is the big deal about that anyway, we ENJOY immensely having the whole house to ouselves. It is nice when they all come to visit, (which is everyday), but they all now have there own homes to go to at the end of their visit. We have actually found that we can hardly go a day without seeing our grandson, we have become addicted to his little butt. Well, that my friends is the last 28 years of my life "post" high school wrapped up in a nut shell. Not very exciting, but looking back, I would not have changed the journey getting here for anything. We like to visit Michigan at least once a year or every other year because my whole family still lives there and my husbands older brother lives in Sandusky (but he is planning to move here in the near future). I miss the green green grass in the spring and summer, and the beautiful fall colors in the fall, and the snow in the winter, but this is home now. (our summers are hot, green, but hot, falls, the leaves go from green to brown pretty much, and winter is cold and we MIGHT get some snow every once in a while, but it never sticks around long enough to enjoy. Although last year I got some beautiful pictures of the trees during the ice storm, draw back was 11 days with heat or lights. (Trust me, it sucked royally). My favorite season here would have to be spring, not too hot and not too cold, just right. Wel, that is all for now. TATA for now!
