Corinne Comfort Drumn (Corky):

CLASS OF 1959
South san francisco, CA

Corinne Comfort's Story

Life My best buds in H.S. were Bernice Torres, Nancy Bonanno and JoAnn Bell. I was not interested in college so I took business courses. My favorite classes were shorthand (Miss Denning), typing, band (Mr. Heckman), and P.E. I graduated at age 17 on a Friday (class of 59), and began my first job the following Monday working in the transcription department of the Social Security Administration on Market St in S.F. I started at a Grade 3 (ha, ha) and advanced to (oh boy) Grade 4. In 1961 I went to work at the S.F. Division Office of Safeway Stores. All together I worked at Safeway and the Liquor Barn (part of Safeway) for about 34 years. I took 4 years off during that time to start a family. I left the Liquor Barn after 10 years because they went into Chaper 13. I got a job at Jameco Electronics in Belmont and stayed there 10 years in the catalog production department until my retirement in Feb of 2006. I have 2 kids - a daughter, 1968, and a son, 1971. Our first grandchild arrived April 1, 2007. We have been lucky - the kids were healthy growing up and stayed out of trou...Expand for more
ble (aside from a couple of keggers). I have not had a particularly exciting life, but it has been a good life. I married at age 20. We did not start a family till 6 years later just after we bought a house in Millbrae - still live there. It's on the wrong side of the tracks but its paid for. We also have a nice condo in Sacramento near Sac State. I retired in 2006 and it has been a transition. My time is my own now and it is taking some getting used to. I've taken up bicycling and swimming. I went on a cruise to Mexico with my daughter in 2006 (my husband is not interested in traveling) and aside from sightseeing excursions on shore we also went rafting and snorkeling. It was great fun. I hope to go on a bicycling vacation next year. Addendum: My 73 year old healthy husband took ill suddenly in March 2007. He passed away October 2007 but not before he was able to greet his first grandchild. He was brave and I miss him, but I am working at moving forward and trying to find who I am. I am of good cheer and grateful for the years we had together but realize I must move on.
