Craig's Story
Life
Hey all! After goofing off for a year and a half following high school, I joined the Navy in 1987, spent two years training in Connecticut and San Diego for my particular job on submarines, then made a total of eleven, 90 day patrols on two ballistic missile submarines.
In 1989, I married Debbie Gray (class of '87). We got stationed in Charleston, SC. A couple of years later, we had Nicholas (now 15), and 11 months after that, we had Jessica (now 14).
After spending 8 years in Charleston, we were transferred to the Trident Submarine Base in Kings Bay, Ga. where I spent another 2 years on my second submarine. Following that tour, I left the active duty side of the Navy to persue a civilian career and have a steadier life. We ...Expand for more
moved back to Grandview, but now live in Kansas City, and Nick and Jessica are in 8th and 9th grades in the Liberty school district.
I joined the Navy Reserve directly out of the Navy, and after completing a 4 year hitch there, I joined the Air Force Reserve for my final 3 years before retirement.
***UPDATE*** 3/12/2008
I got orders to Iraq in May 2007, and left for Kirkuk, Iraq in Aug 2007 for a 6 month deployment. I returned home late Feb, and am now off active duty and back to the civilian world and job. I was stationed at Kirkuk Regional Air Base which used to be an old Iraqi Air Force Base. Saw some neat things, and some not so neat things, but it was an experience to remember for a lifetime. It's good to be back home again!!
