Craig's Story

Life So I graduated and got sent to Oklahoma for their prestigious art program but failed every class because I couldn't function away from California. Well, every class but English, which allowed me to spit out my woes to a cathartic degree and opened my eyes to the therapeutic joy of writing. So I came back to Cali and got my AA from Cypress and then learned massive skills at CSULB but the school was so impacted I transferred to CSUF and graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design. All was not well, however, because I was plunged into the digitally dominated graphics world and the meager computer classes I took at school didn't really prepare me enough to land a graphics job in the outside world. Actually, I should have applied myself more but I was intimidated by the computer for some stupid reason. Anyway I was all bummed out and my head was spinning and I was too sick of school to go back and I remembered my CSULB painting teacher telling me to bail on the Graphics and go with Fine Art and crap like that. I continued doing art for underground punk and metal bands like Hirax, DRI, Metallica, etc., and decided to pursue fiction writing because I had, ironically, began reading books for the first time in my life towards the end of my college career, none of which being school related (I faked all my book reports throughout my entire school career, including the grueling "Book-a-Week" b.s. in Ms. Nilsen's 6th grade Reading class). I digested the original tales of Dracula, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, the weird works of Poe, everything by H.P. Lovecraft, only the classics. I regurgitated a story called "Grandma" and an illustration in accompaniment and both were accepted and published in 1994. Pretty stoked, but that's not going to pay the bills, so I decided to go full time "temporarily" a...Expand for more
t Airborne Express doing dockwork and unloading planes in the early mornings and evenings with the intention of writing and doing artwork on the side. The job was perfect as part time work for college but working the unholy split-shift as a full time gig began wreaking havoc upon my psyche. I was trapped and unable to take any classes or get a full night's sleep and couldn't complete any work on the side because I was always too tired and tripped out and I felt that I was becoming gradually unhinged. Then one day I saw what I needed in the Golden West College catalogue being offered on Saturdays and miraculously Hope was restored and I bailed Airborne at the beginning of 2001 and was magnanimously helped by two fellow Luther Lions at Color-Tech Screenprinting who hired me to help with the custom graphics. I continued to take courses at the local colleges here, including Painting and Flash Animation, and studied my ass off to be the best I could possibly be. I went on to work at a couple other places, quickly learning and outgrowing them, and now I am presently head of the Digital Graphics Dept. at a cool company up the street from my pad in HB. I design and print and rock-out all day. Currently working on some weird paintings and twisted cartoons, and periodically dabbling in the punk and metal underground scene. Also building a website to showcase much of the work I've done from childhood to the present, including the comics I would draw in high school in lieu of classwork. In the mean time, check out the badass Community Photo Album I uploaded which is quickly approaching 300 photos, a Feast for the Eyes which grows perpetually bigger and stronger! Totally going off in my HB domain, bypassing the whole marriage/kids/divorce thing for now, but we'll see what happens. Later!!!
