Craig's Story

Dear Classmates, I am long overdue in putting this message out to you. I have been living up here in Washington state for over 15 years now, before then I lived in beautiful Sonoma Valley, Ca. for 21 years. My job at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo was closed due to base closure and I was offered a job at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wa. So in 1994 we packed up and moved north. Being away from San Diego makes it a little difficult to make it to reunions. I will be honest which keeps me out of trouble, I have been out of touch. There have been other commitments and my job did occasionally send me to San Diego to work on various ships. Being south does give me the opportunity to see my Mom who still lives in the same place, as well as a sister that still live down there. I also get to see the ocean when I'm down south and still love to watch the waves crashing towards shore. It does take a lot of strength to paddle out through the breaking waves and I'm out of practice. Now I'm into kayaking. The water is Cold up here and it's warmer staying in the kayak ! I have fallen out. Yes, I do have a wife, Ramona. We have two grown sons, ages 29 and 24 . I didn't get married until ten years after high school thanks to Vietnam and four Wes Pac deployments to the Tonkin Gulf. I did r...Expand for more
eceive a draft notice, but enlisted in the Navy prior to being ordered to report for duty to the Army. My Dad tore up my original draft papers at the Dulles, D.C. airport while I was waiting for my plane to San Diego to report for Navy basic training. My family had moved back to Va. and I lived there with them for a few months in between July of '67 and entering the Navy. In fact I have been all over the place since June of '67. I failed to say that I've been married since 1977 to the same girl, so I am taken. I currently have all the time in the world to type this message. I retired Jan 7, 2007. It is a real joy to write this letter with just two finger typing although I do still have all ten fingers. I have written a whole book on my life inspried by , "Marley and Me" since I've always loved dogs and had lots of fun with them. Although my favorite chapter is on ''SURFING'', Cowbunga Dude. I've enjoyed this time here and I'm glad that I took the time to share. I'll try to write this part so that the website doesn't block it, like it does some things. Reaching me at home in Port Orchard, Wa. I'm listed in the white pages with a three six zero area code. On our computer; It's just my last name at wave cable dot com with no spaces and the usual things for the, " at & dot" Craig Jan. 2010
