Craig's Story

I was supposed to graduate in 1969, but I had so much fun, I graduated in 1970! I made some mistakes. I learned from my mistakes. I'm not the same person I was in High School. I'm sure none of you are either. Time can crush you or make you a better person. I'm not a religious person but I have strong personal spiritual beliefs that I usually keep to myself. I'm still alive!! I've heard of the passing of Kerry Hendrix, Bobby Gary, Eddie Randall, and others. I miss them. They were part of my early growing up. I had fun with them. I miss Clarkston High School. Not so much the school itself, but the people that attended the school. The Teachers. I remember Ms. Tommy. I still need to apologize to her... Ms. Prante not letting me be in the Drama Club because I couldn't act... Coach Lingerfelt not letting me play football because I had failed a grade. They were doing their job and I respect them for it. Please, if anyone knows how I can contact Ms Tommy, please let me know. I need to apologize to her for disturbing her class. I have memories of certain people... Carol Pendley, Susan Baker, Nancy Hodges, Danny Tucker, Jerry Poole, Kenny Brock, Shelby Burns, Sheila Dollar, Johnny Dooley, Janice Glenn, T.C. Hicks, Fred Jones, Debbie McDaniel, Stephanie Mctyre, Julie Martinson, Beth Moore, Linda Mosley, Kenny Orr, Chuck Staffins, Paul Wells, Lynn Wolfe, Kathy Hollingsworth, Pat Tyson, Mike Davis, Wayne Richards, Beth Proffitt, and a few others.. the list could go on.. I can't remember their names. I was fortunate to be at Clarkston High when the best people, students and teachers, were there. The classes of '69 and '70 were the best classes ever to graduate from Clarkston High. My opinion. I attended College Heights Elementary in Decatur until the first part of the seventh grade. Then my family moved and I entered Indian Creek Elementary. It was here that I met Wayne Richards, Roy Pilgram , TC Hicks, Julie Martinson, Venetta Demos, Teresa Fortenberry, Maria Harper and others. My memory may fail me here as I am not sure if I met some of these people in the seventh grade or the eight grade.I remember the eighth grade at the old Clarkston High. Do you remember the rock building? Do you remember going from the old High School to the new Clarkston High down the street? I do. Everything was sparkling clean. I remember the lockers, the brightly lit halls and classrooms. I made friends with a guy named TC Hicks. I later learned that TC could really take care of himself. He was a tough guy!! And I later learned that he had a good level head on his shoulders. He was intelligent. The last time I saw him was at the Taco Bell on Memorial Drive. TC was an awesome guy then and I hope to meet him again soon. I always wanted to be a millionare when I grew up. Didn't happen, but I'm doing OK. Leisure time for me is to lay back in bed and open a horror book. ...Expand for more
And then when I get drowsy, I just let it happen. I use to live on St. Simons Island. I was a beach bum and a fisherman. And I was still a big party animal. I'd like to see TC Hicks again. He was the first friend I had at Indian Creek Elementary (7th grade) after moving from College Heights Elementary in Decatur. Later at Clarkston, I had a PE class with TC. We wrestled. I was a pretty good wrestler. I usually won my matches. But one time I had to wrestle TC... the match was declared a draw. It was a draw on points only! When the match was over, I felt like I had been beat to hell and back!! He was one tough guy! TC was always friendly to me. I had a lot of respect for him. Tillman Cicero Hicks.. where are you Brother? Pat Tyson was my first real girlfriend. She was a very sweet girl. I remember our times at her house and at Milam Park. Pat was a super person. She broke up with me and she later married Rick Tremor. I had crushes on Sue and Ann Adkerson. They both looked the same! I also had a crush on Becky Bacon. I had a Z-28 Camaro. With a car like that, what girl would refuse a date with me? I had single dates with each of these three girls and they were so nice and friendly. They all were class acts. I also remember my date with Beth Bush. She also was a class act. We went to Six Flags. Had a great time. Beth was a cute, sweet, friendly girl. Why didn't I hang on? I've always had problems with relationships. The problem was with me, not them. After graduating from High School I attended Dekalb College. I saw Beth Moore there many times. Beth was always a very friendly person. I had a music band with Doug Forrester, Kenney Orr (I think!) on bass. I remember one of our bass players slamming his Hagstrom Bass guitar against a pine tree and breaking the neck, only because he couldn't tune it!!! Not Kenney. Bobby Moncrief was on keyboards. There were a couple others in the group but I can't remember. We had fun!! I remember Jean Cook. Why didn't I ask her out? She was cute and very friendly. I sat beside her in a class. We talked together so much that the teacher had to separate us. I remember Elaine McCullough. We sat next to each other in a science class. Why didn't I ask her out? I was so stupid in High School. I wish I could go back and do things differently. I think sometimes about some of my classmates '69 & '70... Dale Butler, Beth Profitt, Roy Webster, Janice Glenn, Vickie Storey, Bill Manke, Sue Cunningham, Dennis Griffin, Lajuana Greenway, Jodi Weeks..ah..Jodi Weeks! Jodi sat in front of me in study hall. I asked her out and she accepted. I took her to the Fox Theater and then got lost leaving there. Atlanta's one way streets confused me. It was a very embarrasing moment for me. Jodi was a very nice girl. I wonder how she is doing now. I wish I hadn't been so stupid! Well, it's 5/16/2015 and not much has changed..
