College
I had an awesome time in college (undergrad), particularly compared to high school. People from high school would *never* believe some of the stuff I did. Heck, *I* hardly believe some of the stuff I did. I lost quite a bit of weight, especially the first semester (what Freshman 15?) and kept it off until about 1995. I started looking back at my life experiences, and despite the incredible learning curve, I started packing the weight back on. Oh well. Surprisingly (to me), I pretty much quit drinking right after my 21st birthday.
My best experience in college was learning English-style horseback riding and gaining confidence with horses. I always loved horses and the lessons (I got credit for taking it folks!...Expand for more
I loved college!) I learned in class stay with me today, mostly when I am not on horseback. I really enjoyed the Ballroom Dancing class I took for credit and wish I had a partner that was interested in that kind of stuff. The instructor for the class thought I had enough talent to go further, but it didn't happen. Now I watch competitions on PBS and just dream.
I had some jobs that really sucked when I first got out, but they have provided me with an incredible understanding of myself - my wants, needs and dreams. Today, I like to think I've fulfilled one of my biggest dreams/visions - to help others by empowering them through education, specifically health related.
I can't believe that the State of Rhode Island trusts me to make their bioterrorism response plans! It's a huge responsibility but thankfully challenging enough to keep me from "crying in my cereal" out of boredom.
Workplace
"Do what you love and the money will follow." A college friend told me that and now that I'm doing what I love, I have less money, though more content with my life. That was 2001. Now it's 2004 and the money has followed!
As a Bioterrorism Response Planner for the RI Department of Health, I get to use my incredible imagination. The job requires me to work in the hypothetical and yet it has a great deal of reality and relevance to just about everything I've done up to now.
