Curtis's Story

Life Having moved six times before getting out of the sixth grade repressed my social and intellectual development. Barrington, Illinois is where my only roots developed (6th grade through college. Today, I love to view my life as a series of adventures - kinda like the movie: "Little Big Man". Sometimes I knew I was on an adventure, but usually--mostly--I didn't have a clue, until it was all over. Wow, if I could just relive each of them, I could make adjustments in my favor!!! Well, my latest adventure is my most difficult yet. I pray for strength and endurance to make it to the finish line with a big smile in my heart. Yet, I know that your challenges may be more difficult than mine. The challenge and the joy is to live life well, everyday. Well, that adventure ended with a small smile in my heart in 2004. Now, I retired to the high desert of Central Oregon--30 minutes from Mt. Bachelor and 15 minutes from SunRiver Resort (4300' elevation). I am training six days a week in tennis and bought a new boat (50 lakes within 50 miles of my chalet). My dog: Shady Lady and I love the mountains and especially the ponderosa pine trees and the scent of sage. Best wishes to you and thanks for checking up on an "old" Bronco. tion: University of Oregon Real Life Education: School of "Hard Nocks" Workplace I was fortunate that my Dad owned a tavern. I never had a drink until long after age 21 and knew I hadn't missed a thing! It was the tavern connection that got my first construction job in sewer and water. That paid for undergraduate and graduate school at Illinois State University. I was blessed with an opportunity to teach and coach at ISU for two years. While training in my sport I took a teaching/coaching position at Deerfield high school for one year and then moved my young family to Oregon. Oregon has been good to me although I wish I had stayed in teaching and not moved into administration. As a high school athletic director, then assistant principal and then principal I had less time to enjoy the special moments of life. I had that time as a teacher and now I have it everyday as a volunteer. The outdoor wonderland of the Pacific Norhtwest has been great for the four Sexton boys: Britt (age 37), Kyle (age 34), Troy (age 25), Grandson Wyatt (age 8) and Curtis (age 62). Best wishes to you. Military I have the greatest respect for people who served our nation. I did not serve in a military capacity. Three men who served: Paul Wick, Willard Spicer and David Gehler had great influence on my life. To them I owe a great debt of gratitude and appreciation. Life is special for those who appreciate the sacrifices and great leadership of others. I have been led by great men and women!!! God bless their souls and their everlasting life. Curtis
