Cynthia's Story
Life
My life has been more than crazy in the past decade. In '99, I met the best man in the world, Neal. He was a police officer and a firefighter/ paramedic in Stafford and Prince William Counties. He was a youngen - only 24 (I was 29) when we met... We got married in 2000 - decided to start a family right away. Things were going great for a little while and then sadly, he went to work one day and never came home. He was killed in an ambulance accident on I-66 in Arlington just before our 5 month wedding anniversary, when I was 3 months pregnant. It was quite a major news story in the area - the driver of the ambulance fell asleep and Neal was killed during the rollover. Life was pretty much a living hell until Ashleigh came into the world in October 2001.
Our daughter, Ashleigh Neale, arrived on 10-4, the universal sign in "that world" for all is ok. So, I know Neal had a hand in that and I thank God every day that I was so blessed to have known him and now be raising his only child.
All is ok. In fact, it's more than OK now. More about us below.....
About Ashleigh:
So - Ashleigh Flynn - if you're out there somewhere, I have to thank you for knowing you. I loved the way your name was spelled - and then Neal and I moved into the "Townes of Ashleigh" in 1999 and I just knew I had to name our daughter Ashleigh.
So my Ashleigh believes she is the center of the universe (she gets it honestly!) Ashleigh just turned 7 this past October.... and that alone is hard to believe! She's quite the socialite - from Girl Scouts (and yes, I am her Troop Leader!), 4H, Pinto (like baseball) Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Gymnastics, Swimming, and Horseback.... our days and nights stay pretty busy. Throw in there the fact that she is now in a Karate camp (in Falls Church of all places) and wants to start taking Karate - it could get yet more interesting as summer finishes up. She's been spending Summers at my parent's house in the Outer Banks for the last 4 years... although much sadder this year since her Poppy passed away.
Our Home
In 2004, in the spur of the moment, I bought a house in Ohio while we were up visiting family. Grannie wanted to come to the auction and I of course had no desire - but went anyway. I fell in love with the h...Expand for more
ouse, bought it, and life has been better every day because of it. The house is just over 7,000 sq feet, sits on 7 acres, and has a nice big in-ground pool. We have 3 dogs and a cat .... and they all are quite protective. Needless to say, I still have a security alarm!
The Family
So my sister still owns the house in Falls Church. We go back and visit her often and in fact Ash is spending some time there this summer too - and going to camps at the Rec Center of all places. Mom is doing ok - she's battling some arthritis stuff - and hasn't been the same since my step-dad died in March 08. She's likely going to be relocating from the Outer Banks to Ohio sometime in the next year. For those of you who met him, Kevin is now 19 and getting ready to start his Sophomore year at Elon. My brother lives in Ashburn - he got married about 2 years ago (FINALLY!) and has two step daughers and a grand daughter. Yes, my brother is a grandpa! LOL!! He has his own shop in you guessed it - the auto body field.
My Job
Let's see... I love my job. I work for CSC based in Falls Church. BUT - I work from home (in small town Ohio) every day. Fortunately, I'm able to actually have a dedicated room to be my office. Unfortunately, if you asked Ash, I spend more time there than anywhere else in the house!
I've been with CSC for just over 14 years now. Had a couple different positions in the Federal and Corporate sides and now have moved on to our Commercial side to round out the resume. I am a Communications and Analyst Relation Manager for our Outsourcing group and get to work with Industry Analysts and tell them about all the good stuff we're capable of doing for our clients. I must say it's a great job to have! Not that I ever needed a reason to talk to others, but now - I get paid to do it! Who can complain about that?
So -- as you can tell, I can't complain. I have a great daughter, great house, great job.... and while we've had our share of losses of great proportion, we have a pretty great life. Hope to hear from some of you some day... Hard to believe we graduated 20 years ago! That made me feel very old. Add to it Ash is in the class of 2020 -- and wow.... life is a journey! Hope you and yours are all doing well on your journey!
