Cyndi's Story
Life
My husband and I have a 12-acre farm in Alvin that is home to our five horses and too many barn cats!
I show my horses in dressage, an English form of riding, and my 'kids' have won local, regional and national championships.
School
Some of my favorite teachers (and biggest influences) at SHHS were Dennis Skarda (Chemistry) and Bonnie Deal (English). They were great people and great teachers.
College
I graduated from University of Texas/Austin in 1979 with a B.S. in Advertising. While at UT I was Associate Editor of the CACTUS Yearbook. I loved UT have great memories.
Workplace
My most interesting job was as a writer for Hallmark Cards in Kansa...Expand for more
s City, MO. I wrote mostly humor cards, including Garfield and Peanuts. I met Jim Davis, Garfield's creator, several times and even made him laugh. ;) I spent 21 years as a writer in the Marketing Department at the Houston Chronicle, where I wrote speeches for our top executives and advertising campaigns for some of our advertisers. My work won local, regional and national industry awards over the years, including several "golds" in the Houston Advertising Federation annual "ADDY" Awards. Most recently I was Marketing Manager for Mid-West Steel, a division of NCI. Now I'm retired and wonder how I ever managed to work full time and juggle farm, horses, etc!
