From Woodson, I attended Mary Washington College and graduated in 1969. While there, I met my husband, Barry Kelly, a U.Va. student. We married after our third years (in 1967, the Summer of Love) ,and I took a year off to work while he finished his last year at Virginia. He volunteered for the draft and went off to training and then to Viet Nam. Meanwhile, I finished college and taught English for a year and a half at Oakton High School. When he returned from Viet Nam, Barry got a job with the Department of the Interior back in Charlottesville. Despite our best efforts to stay in Virginia, Nixon's consolidating of federal office regions caused us to move to Philadelphia in 1971. We lived in New Jersey, outside of Philadelphia, from 1971 - 2009. In 2009, we moved to the far western suburbs of Philly to be closer to our PA grandchildren. taught everything from nursery school to a graduate course, and I spent most of my time as an English teacher and school counselor at Shawnee High School in Medford, NJ. It was a great school, much like Woodson, and I feel blessed to have spent my career doing something that I loved. I retired in 2002 and opened a part-time counseling practice in my hometown, from which I retired in 2008. I worked with adolescents and adults and specialized in substance abuse issues. My husband and I have two grown children and five wonderful grandchildren. He retired several years ago, so we have been busy traveling, spoiling the grandchildren, and recovering from 35+years of getting up at 5:15 am.
I'm very excited about the upcoming 50th reunion for W.T. Woodson's Class of 1964. If you are from the class, please join our official reunion website: WTWoodson64.com. Paul and Beth Bittenbender, Bob Harman, Joan Hitchcock, Karsten Rothenberg Judi Booker, Marilyn Hicks Fitzgerald, Lynn Griffith Manthei and I have been busy putting this site together and are busy planning the reunion itself. Please join the site for all the details; I hope to see you there!
