Cynthia's Story
Life is good. I've been able to do some traveling and expect to travel more. I've lived in Maryland, Florida, Hawaii, and Missouri. Hawaii is my favorite place to live, but it wasn't easy on the bank account to travel to the mainland as often as I wanted to. We moved to Missouri in 1988, knowing that Mom would pass away soon. I wanted my daughters to know her. We stayed after she passed away thinking that it was best for the girls to stay in their schools. Now they are both grown and living in CA and MD and I'm still here, LOL!!
I've worked as a clerk, a machine operator, a cosmetologist, a maid, and a waitress. I went back to school and in 1993 got a degree in Nursing. I was a Psychiatric Nurse for about eight years. That was probably the most interesting job I've ever had! I loved it, but the stress was extreme. So I then started working as a Neonatal Nurse. I like the job that I have now. The hospital is a regional hospital about 50 mi. south of St. Louis. I transition newborns at delivery and teach and assist parents with newborn care. There are usually 3-6 n...Expand for more
ewborns in my care, sometimes as many as 12. Ours is a level 1/level 2 facility, so I also care for sick and premature newborns, but if they are critically ill or very premature, I stabilize them and call a team to tranport them to Childrens or Cardinal Glennon in St. louis for critical care in a level 3 facility.
I've raised two terrific daughters. Their Dad, my second husband, is an immigrant from the Phillipines and a talented chef. We owned a Steak and Seafood Restaurant in Farmington, MO. while the kids were growing up. Our oldest is married and planning a move back to Missouri from California. She and her husband plan to open a gastro-pub. Our youngest is in at American University, working towards a Masters in Fine Arts.
I'm divorced and since my girls have gone out on their own, the empty nest has filled with six cockatiels, four dogs and one three legged cat. I'm not sure where the future will take me and my menagerie, but I've learned to expect and enjoy the changes.
If you're curious, my first husband, Fred Burgmeier, is still surfing in Hawaii.
