Cynthia's Story
Life
After surviving 3 foggy years of high school while existing in my little shell of complete lack of confidence and fear of guys, I took my diploma a year early in Â72. As soon as I turned 18, I got married. Well now that was my stupid move of a lifetime.
In Â73 and Â74 we lived in Indiana and Tennessee, then returned to So. CA The Lord blessed me with 2 wonderful daughters in Â79 and Â80. My neck was broken in Â84, and that was when my eyes began to open to the reality of my so-called Âmarriage.Â
In Â87 I took my daughters and left him. We divorced in Â89. By Â95 I could no longer tolerate the gangs, traffic, smog, and humidity of Sunny Southern California, so I moved my daughters and myself up to Southern Utah. Then in 2008 I moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area following my daughters.
As I read through the accomplishments of my fellow classmates I felt both proud and inadequate. Proud that some of you went on and got degrees; inadequate because I did not. But you know what? Not everyone has what it takes to go on to colleges and universities. Heck, some of us don't even know the difference between the two (prime...Expand for more
example here). Likewise, not everyone has what it takes to raise 2 children from a wheelchair while being an employer 24/7 in their own home, and having to learn a new language in the midst of it all just to pull off staying alive one more day.
So maybe I haven't really traveled far from my shell. I still can't handle public speaking and my lack of social confidence remains intense in the area of male/female relationships. I am one of the few "Single and hating it" on this board.
Overall, though, I think I've done alright. My girls are both intelligent and loving. One works for the University Of Phoenix, and the other owns and runs a very successful foreclosure cleanup business here in AZ. Between my two daughters I have 4 grandchildren - GRANDKIDS ARE THE GREATEST! - And now I am helping them with raising those 4. I am happy and love it here. My girls and I have smiles on our faces everyday and we welcome the challenges of tomorrow.
I've often wondered, "What ever happened to ..." Thanks to Classmates I now know and can say - Congratulations to all of you for making it this far, and may God richly bless you from this day forward!!
