Cynthia's Story

In high school I studied typing and shorthand (Office Practice) under Professor Biba She was mean, but after graduating, I know she wanted us to be the best in order to get good jobs if we wanted to be clerk-typists and secretaries. I got hired by the Dept. of Corrections after H.S. I also started college at U of Md. After a year at U.of Md. I worked full-time and went to PGCC part-time. Got my A.A. in Secondary Education in '89. By then I was married and had three kids. Plus, I had joined the U.S. Army Reserves. My primary MOS was Hospital Food Service Specialist. My secondary MOS was Cook. I also trained as a Combat Medic. A majority of my service was spent making sure the troops got nutritious and delicious meals. I enjoyed my time in the military. We always had a great time taking care of the troops, Got picked up by AT&T-Law & Government Affairs, Washington, D.C. around 12/88. I graduated from Strayer University in 1999 with a B.S. in Business Administration. As a result of 9/11, got orders to serve with my unit the 400th Military Police Unit out of Ft. Meade, MD, at the National Security Agency (NSA) with a unit out of Oklahoma for a year. We did 12 hour shifts and they did the other 12 hours. Finished October 2002. q. We returned to the U.S, in January 2004. During my tour, traveled to Lundstuhl Germany, That was since it was in October. October Fest was fun. Upon my return to the U.S, my oldest son joined the Marines. He met another Marine and I became a grandma soon after that. I retired 5/7/2005 with 20 honorable years of service. Without my family's help I could not have served my country as long as I did. At the same time my daughter graduated from H.S. and moved on Bowie State's campus. I sold my home and moved to Las Vegas, NV, for seven years and enjoyed every minute of my time there. While there, I worked with special needs students and earned my M.Ed. in Special Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I returned in 2011 and now help with my mom who still lives in Capitol Heights, MD. I also met a great guy at work named Daniel Savoy in 2012. I moved in with him and a few years later we married. April 30, 2018, my husband had a heart attack and passed away. I miss Danny, he was a really great guy, but go on spending time with family, friends, my church family, friends at the VFW Post 9376 in Clinton, Md, and grand kids. I now work for P.G. County Schools as a school bus driver. I now have four grand kids and enjoy spending time with them. Looking forward to travel to other states and one day other countries.
