Cynthia's Story

Life My husband Donald and I have been married since 2003. We live in Torrance, and have a 1 year old son, Lucas. We also have a cat (Mitzi - she's 10 and I've had her since getting out of college) and two Basset Hound dogs (Flash and Rosco - both are 2 1/2) that we compete in canine agility. Flash has already earned her CL1 title in CPE. School Apparently I liked it at high school so much... that I became a high school teacher... and at the same school I went to! College Wow... five years at UCSD... I've lost touch with so many people (and I regret that - I LOVE to hear from any former Warren College RA's 1995-1997) but I remember all the construction during Freshman year (Warren College res halls were under construction) with Stephanie as my roomie, spending the summer in the "basement" - the only "0" level apartment in building 3 (now Douglas Hall) at Warren, living on the 1st floor of Harlan Hall my sophomore year as a peer advisor, living with Carol and Heather my 3rd year (and having the yellow flowers on the Warren college balcony in Black Hall), living in that dark little 1st floor apartment with Jen and Erin the first year I was an RA (Resident Advisor) in Brennan Hall during my 4th year, and moving to ...Expand for more
the 5th floor of Brennan (again with Erin) for my last year (and 2nd stint as an RA). Loved every minute of it! Years later, I wanted a fast program to get my Masters degree/credential and chose Pepperdine's GSEP program - the Culver City campus! It was such a fast program that I really didn't get to know anyone very well... I wish I had though. But I did get that degree in just one year - and planned a wedding too, all while working full time teaching. Workplace I'm currently teaching US History and AP US History at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, CA. Love it, love it, LOVE IT! A great place to work (or am I just biased because I went there?) - regardless, I love my job and never see myself teaching anywhere else. I started out (in fall 1999) teaching freshmen "Intro to Catholicism" (subbing for a teacher on maternity leave) and at the start of the next semester I moved into the social studies department to teach AP US Government, US Government and AP US History. Due to my tremendous time constraints, I have given up the AP US Government course (I did love it though) as of Fall 2006. Perhaps one day I'll design a new elective course and add something else to my course list but for now, the two will do.
