Cynthia's Story
I don't think I was very well known in high school. I tried to be a serious student. In hindsight, I should have goofed off more although I understand, I did at senior prom. Oh my. Not characteristic of me but have fun sometimes right? Anyway, I tried a little wine that night... That and I ditched one day of school during high school for senior ditch day. My tales aren't that exciting.
I was very lightly involved in drama, where I got non-speaking parts as I was so shy. I'm quite over that now as I have many opportunities for public speaking. I can still see Mrs. Wing in the shadows, encouraging me to stand a certain way and project my voice! I'm still not an actress although I once took a role in a community play with my husband and we had a blast.
I was also in drill team and was the one with the least talent on the entire team but tried very hard to get better. I practiced my marching and routines endlessly at home. I was rewarded with three trophies one year - most improved, best marcher and most inspirational. Of course that was inspirational! Who wouldn't be inspired by a shy girl who can't dance well that makes it through? I look back at that with fondness. My husband loves the photo of me in my silver boots so the hard work was well worth it! Kim Wollam was really the one with talent and meant to be the leader and I was proud of her when she be...Expand for more
came the leader. I got mono my senior year of high school and had to drop out. I really enjoyed the comraderie with the drill team though and learned how to hold a smile in searing heat though.
I went on to becaming a business manager, as was my high school goal. I manage a resort in Idaho and love it. I have worked at the same place since 1982 and love my life in Idaho. I was a volunteer
EMT for six years and that has been helpful to me on and off the ambulance. I am a new grandmother and have three grown sons aged 26, 26 and 25. I became an instant mom in 1985 when I married a single (full time) father with twins and one more. They were only 2 and 3 at the time. What a gift for me! Perhaps there was a great plan there as I had planned to wait until I was 30 to start a family. You know what happens when you are busy making plans for yourself, god makes real plans for you!
I am proud to have had the opportunity to go to Rubidoux High School. I learned a great deal from the teaching staff and from my friends. I have only driven through Rubidoux once since high school and saw that Donahoos Chicken still existed. That was my very first job in high school and their cleanliness standards were exceptional and chicken the best!
I have only heard from Tanya Wilson and Jean Stipen (sp?) and Rhonda Levacy since high school. I see we have all scattered! -Cindy
