D's Story

My god! Lotsa water under this ol' bridge, huh? Is it possible that anyone here remembers me? I was hardly a standout. Just your typical nerdy pencil-neck navy brat. You might remember me as that tall, skinny kid who was always running, year 'round, any weather. Long-distance track, cross-country, 500 Mile Club. Ya, that was me. Believe it or not, I didn't even like running all that much; it was just the only way I found to deal with my dweeby self. I kinda changed a few things since then, and I'm tons happier for it, but maybe that's a story for another time. So, out of high school I joined the Navy -- or to be more accurate, ...Expand for more
dear ol' dad signed me in before I turned 18, his last ditch effort to make a man of me. (Huh huh!) I traveled. A lot. All over the world. Tried everything under the sun. Made the usual mistakes. Went back to school, got my master's in English, and settled into a community college on the very edge of civilization in the great empty state of Maine. Right now I plan to be here until I retire then head someplace where the sun always shines and the water's clear as air, and the sand's like powdered sugar. Until then, though, I'll wait and hope for one warm connection to beckon me back to good ol' NCCHS for '73's wrinkle reunion.
