D.J.'s Story
Life
Hi. If you remember me from Elementary School, you knew me as "Doralie". We moved to Laurel Hollow in fourth grade and moved away again halfway through eigth - Cathy Saia's family bought our house! I've never stopped missing Laurel Hollow and my friends at CSH. I was such a good girl then - honor student, avid horseback rider, into sports. Remember choir and Mr. Gottsalk and singing "Let Tyrants shake their iron . . ."? If you remember me from Junior High School, I had begun my rebel phase and was something of a Bowie freak. If you remember me from High School, you'll recall seeing me hanging out in the Girl's Room or on the bleachers, though rarely in a classroom. Remember modular scheduling and the student lounge? I can't imagine why the adminstration decided to end that experiment!!! No, high school was not an academic milestone for me. I remember so clearly our Assistant Principal, Mr. Ramos, saying, "D.J., you have such potential", as he directed me to attend 70 straight d...Expand for more
ays of detention for cutting classes!
Well, I eventually did go on to college at Georgia State University (commuting to school each morning with my dear friend Caryl Berlin - remember her?) In 1989, I graduated from Hofstra Law School, and have been practicing in the public sector every since. I'm an assistant district attorney in Nassau County now; I prosecute special victims cases. Before this I worked in Family Court for a long time prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases. And even further back in time I was a domestic violence ADA in Albany. It all began though at the Legal Aid Society in Queens. Oh, those were the days!
I am a single mom, and my children are the most amazing children in the the history of the world. Life turned out to be quite wonderful but very different from how I pictured the future when I attended Calhoun.
I must say that my memories of those high school years are, though a little fuzzy, quite happy. Hope you all are enjoying your lives as well!
