DON's Story
I think it was 1955 or 1956 when my sister , ANN and I started our 9th grade class in the new school. This was the first year for the school.towards the end of the school year I had a little problem with the principal, we finally agreed after a lengthy heated discussion that I should leave the school and not return to classes. That’s what you get when you think you are as smart as the teacher.heck I was 16 years old and should have gotten my backside adjusted.really don’t remember if I did or not. Wound up working a lot of part time or low pay full time jobs. Interstate 75 had just started being built through turner county and I went to work on the highway. ith money in my pocket.worked on the highway 2 different times,worked in the barber shop several times shinning shoes and learning to be a barber. Worked with carter-Hanner tv service for about a year. When the skating rink was built, it became my home away from home. Got quite good with the skating. Was invited by a traveling scout to become a Semi-Pro skater, turned him down so I could join the USAF. I did join the Air Force and stay active duty for 22 years.after retirement I went to work at the Masonic print shop. One and one half years and then got a job back on the Base as a civilian . 24 years later retired again. Been retired for 9 years, my wife retired at the same time. I lost my wife on 27 August 2018.still trying to adjust to that loss
