Dale's Story
II joined the Navy the day i graduated from WSHS and my mother and Dad pircked up my diploma. Spent three and a half in the Navy (WWII) in the Pacific theatre of conflict. I was discharged and came home, my new home because my parents had moved. I started to West Virginia Wesleyan College the fall that i came home. I married Rosemary Gregory during my second year of college. The GI Bill was a live saver for me. It was difficult to support my family. I taught two years at Hacker Valley school , one year at Cleveland School and one year at Jumbo. My family and i moved to Charles County, Maryland. I taught three years at Indian Head School and then was appointed as principal and was principal of that school for 12 years, then principal of Two other schools .....in all 30 years. They are all retired from their vocations. Coming to Webster Springs High School was a shock for me because my first eight years were in one room schools. As i look back now i recognize that Mr. Conway was a good principal. He was strict as i guess he needed to be. My wife and i live about 25 miles south of Washington, DC where we have lived since 1955. Rosemary Gregory, my wife became offfice manager for the state office of taxation where she worked until she retired. We have three grand children and three great grandchildren. At this stage in my life I read, write, mow lawn and visit on face book. We stay busy with Church, writing friends,,going to doctors . We have driven across country three times. We visited families along the way (relatives). We haven/t been back to the mountains for three or four years now.....Maybe this summer. Porter Hamrick and his wife live near also a Cutlip family (from Webster Springs)
