Dale's Story

Life After working as a Systems Administrator at USU for almost a year, I graduated with a Bachelors' Degree in Computer Science. I approached my employers at the university and informed them that I should be getting paid more now. They informed me that in order to get a pay raise I needed to get a job offer from another company and then they would make a counter-offer. So after exactly three job interviews I got a job offer from RR Donnelly here in Logan, UT. The university made their counter-offer, but they came in $9000/year less than Donnelly. So two weeks after they told me to get a job offer from someone else, I started work at my new job. The university was only willing to give me a $4000 raise, but now wants to hire 6 full time salaried employees at $32,000 each to replace me. Funny thing is that everybody they offer the job to declines because they get offered more money elsewhere. They have only been able to hire one replacement person. I am now a programmer in the print business. We do custom programming on things like Verizon bills, Qwest bills, Credit Card applications, Insurance Applications, and just about anything else that is mailed out in bulk in the U.S. We have a mailing facility right in our building that is responsible for almost half of all mail that is sent nationally on an annual basis. My job change has also made it possible for us to buy a house. We are buying a house and will move into it at the end of September. It is a 5 bedroom, 2 bath home that is half a mile from my new job. There is a swing set built into the back yard for the kids and lots of space for woodworking projects. I used to be a Systems Administrator at Utah State University. I put off college graduation a few semesters so that I could take that job promotion. Other jobs that I have done on campus are: Network Security Team member(Yes I know. Most of you never figured me to be on the good side of the law!), Network Manager, and Computer Hardwar...Expand for more
e Repair. On June 27, 2006 I was in a national tournament and finished in 6th place in C++ programming, and 10th place in Information Management. Previously at the state competition I finished 2nd in Network Design(team event), 3rd in C++ programming, 6th in Networking concepts, 7th in Telecommunications, and 9th in Computer Concepts. Kaimi(pronounced ki-me) just turned 3 yrs old on July 1st. She is FEARLESS! She loves to run, jump, swim, and climb. Almost daily she comes and lets us know she wants to go the 'swimmin poo'. She has already been rescued once from jumping into a hot tub unattended. She will run away from us at the pool and jump in where we have to swim to her as quick as we can and try to catch her. We have a second daughter now (Myah). She was due Dec. 25th, but neither the doctor or Danielle wanted to be in the hospital Christmas Day. We seem to have a way of hitting holidays with due dates. Kaimi's due date was July 4th but the doctor said she was so big there was no way she could be born naturally. So we opted to have the C-Section done as far away from the due date as we could. We did the same thing for Myah. Myah was born on Dec. 19th, 2006. We were hoping for a boy but are happy with our little girl. Someday we hope to have a little boy that we will name Daxton, but so far haven't been successful there yet. My wife Danielle is a graduate of Accounting at Utah State University. She stays at home and takes care of Kaimi and Myah. We met in Yellowstone while she was there working for the summer. Her friends kept referring to me as the 'local player'. She ignored them and we were married one year to the day after we met. We had kind of a rough courtship (probably my fault...) but we worked through it. Two hints: 1. don't give a girl flowers when you tell her you just want to be friends. 2. Don't get caught holding two girls' hands at the same time while at a romantic setting by the lake under a full moon by a fire.
