Dale's Story
Life
36 years in the property/casualty insurance business in Arkansas. Still full time employment with brokerage firm out of Houston, where I just started and operate a branch office here in Bentonville/Bella Vista area.
Hobby is classic ford vehicle restoration with shop in Bella Vista, AR which my son, Keith, operates and I fool with some on weekends. He primarily restores first generation Mustangs and I own a few.
Love to play golf, when I can make time.
Current resident of NW Arkansas (since 1993) and originally from Little Rock and later lived in Benton for 18 years, while still working in the Little Rock area.
Wife, Carol, is from Hot Springs and we have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Oldest son, Jerry, is career army, El Paso, TX currently, daughter, Kelly, is an employee of UAMS-Little Rock and youngest son does classic car restorations at a shop here in Bella Vista.
Biggest regret. Quitting the basketball team in my high school senior year due to not enough play time. Reason became apparent while recently looking through old high school annual and classmate comments inside the covers referring to me as "Gunner". In other words, a shot fiend.
School
I attended school all grades in Little Rock. Beginning at Kramer elementary. Best memories from Kramer...Expand for more
were the annual school carnival, I believe in October. Girlfriend was Charlene Berry in 6th grade. Favorite teacher was Ms. James in 6th grade.
Next was East Side. Played on the football and basketball teams there. Great Sock Hop dances in the Gym. Best friends there were Fritz Goodbar, Mike McBryde and other team mates. Some of us went to Steve's Show (Channel 11) on a fairly regular basis.
Finally to Central. Gave up on football, but was on the basketball team for 2 and 1/2 years. Sports ruled. Suprisingly, I actually graduated in 1963.
College
Following service in the Navy, I attended college at State College of Arkansas in the years 67/68 and 68/69 and then competed my education at UALR in evenings after going to work in the insurance field with Firemans Fund in LR in late 1969.
Surprisingly, college semed a lot easier than high school but probably because I finally got serious about school.
Military
Entered USN following high school in August 1963. Boot Camp in San Diego, "A" Radar School in San Francisco and 3 and 1/2 years aboard USS Forster out of Pearl Harbor. Initially Alaskan water radar picket ship but then Vietnam in 65,66 and 67 for operation market time.
Great shipmate friends. Still in contact with several nearly 40 years later.
