Dale's Story
I moved to Torrance in the second grade, attending Prairie Elementary for one year, then Crenshaw Elementary until Edison Elementary opened for 4th grade. Graduated Edison in 8th grade and started North High School (Class of 1964) where I attended for 11/2 years, moving to Santa Ana where I completed High School at Santa Ana Valley in 1964. One year of college at Loyola U. then transfer to UC Irvine where I majored in Biology as a pre-med student. IO spent a year in Japan for Junior Year Abroad through the UC system. After graduating I entered Medical School at UCLA, graduating in 1973. A Rotating Internship in San Jose followed and then a Residency in Psychiatry at USC-LA County General Hospital. After finishing Residency I moved to the Bay area and established a private practice which included being Medical Director of an in-patient psychiatric program for almost 20 years. Along the way I married and had 2 children (boy and girl, ages 40 and 36 respectively. Two grandchildren, ages 7 and 5, girl and boy, whom I see every week, because they live near by and we baby-sit, a lot!! My wife and I enjoy traveling so we have over the years traveled a lot: We have been to Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Australia, India, England, France, Italy, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Belize, and Cuba. adventures! I retired at 65 which leaves me ample time to pursue my passions for learning. I am a perennial student taking night classes at Stanford which is just down the road an hour away. I have been trying to teach myself accordion and piano, but still have a long way to go on that project. I read a lot, especially for my classes, mostly classics in world literature. I love Shakespeare and go to the Oregon Shakespeare festival every year. Also have season opera tickets in San Jose. We have lived in the same house for 35 years which is located in the mountains west of Los Gatos on 3 acres of forested land which is quiet and completely smog free. Maybe because of my age, I have been thinking more about my mortality. Two years ago, I had a health scare and had to have open heart surgery for a valve problem. Things are stable at the moment but every day is a gift to be appreciated. Over the years, I only attended one class reunion and so lost contact with everyone I had shared so many memories with in those formative years. Lately, I have discovered a renewed interest in trying to reach out and connect with old classmates and this website has been at least some help in that endeavor. I fear that some of those classmates may already have passed away but I will be glad to hear from those who are still kicking. Dale
