Dale's Story
Greetings from Short Mountain, TN, located halfway between Smithville & Woodbury and ONLY two miles from the Short Mountain Moonshine Distillery...How handy is that?! So, what happened to me & what have I been up to you ask.....Who cares?...Right? Anyway, I'm in a pretty good mood right now so I'll give you an update in a nutshell. I am now retired from the rural telecommunications field having done so in 2016 after 22.5 years with DeKalb Telephone Cooperative (a.k.a. DTC Communications) and 12.5 years with Bledsoe Telephone Cooperative prior to that. Retirement is great. I highly recommend it. It allows you to do things like travel the good ole USA on a motorcycle (my Honda Gold Wing). I have taken up a post-retirement part-time gig as a Substitute Teacher & Sports Announcer for DeKalb County High School. I have never enjoyed doing anything s...Expand for more
o much. The kids love it when they see "Mr. Dale" ride up on one of his Honda motorcycles each (almost every school) day. They'll spot me in town at places like WalMart, Dairy Queen, etc. and always give a shout out. They ask me to attend their various events, ball games, etc. which I try and do. About three years ago, I became the "voice" in the booth announcing at DCHS Tigerette Softball Games and spinning tunes from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s between innings. So, I suppose you could say this former Sequatchie County Indian has become a DeKalb County Tiger. wearing the Black and Gold school colors. I tell my students: "I may be crazy but I have a good time," a lyric from the song "Life's Been Good," which very few if any of them know. I am married one of the prettiest former cheerleader and basketball player DeKalb County had to offer since Canada Day, 2005. Have a fabulous day! Roll Tide! And remember the old slogan "You meet the nicest people on a Honda."
