Dale's Story
After graduation, I worked in local music shops and studied Audio Engineering at MTSU for 2 years, then dropped out to take a job in Atlanta, moving back to Nashville a year later. I finished university on and off over the next few years and eventually started working for Studio Audio & Video in 1995, a small British company making computer audio systems for remastering CDs, surround sound for DVDs, and editing audio for radio/film/TV. While in the Nashville office, my clients included Kevin Killen (Peter Gabriel, U2, Elvis Costello), Rudy Van Gelder (jazz recording great), and I worked on a Grammy-nominated album for Marty Stuart ('The Pilgrim'). In June 1999, I transferred to SADiE's head office in Cambridge, UK (about an hour north of London). While working there, I oversaw installations at some of the biggest names in the audio/video industry, including Radio France (Paris), Technicolor (London), So...Expand for more
ny Whitfield Street (London), and held training seminars at BBC Radio and Abbey Road Studios. I left SADiE in 2004 and now work as an Audio Producer for the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) in London, creating media such as audiobooks, interactive websites, and radio programmes with actors like Michael Palin (Monty Python), children's writer Jacqueline Wilson, and poets Benjamin Zephaniah, John Hegley and Pam Ayres. I also work with synthetic speech to help make computers and the Internet more accessible to blind and partially-sighted people. In July 2007, I became a British Citizen/Dual National, and now hold both an American and a UK/EU passport. With these, I can work and live anywhere in the US or EU without need of visas or permits for the rest of my life. Hobbies include traveling, cooking, and music (playing Hammond Organ or drums in bands, or being a live sound engineer on weekends).
