Dale's Story
Workplace
After University and USN (Ltjg), I joined Boeing in Seattle in an purchasing role. After a couple of years, I accepted an assignment with Northrop in Long Beach California as Materials Manager for a panel factory.
After a couple of years I must have clashed with the boss as I quickly accepted an offer to work as materials manager for a drug manufacturer in Glendale, Ca. (a division of American Hospital Supply). This was a great job and I was sorry to leave it but my 2 children were just to the age of starting school and we felt Seattle was a better place to raise a family than was Long Beach. working on the 747 (they told me I was the first relocation Boeing paid to bring someone to Seattle since the big "bust" hit Boeing in 1970 (remember "will the last one who leaves Seattle please turn out the lights"?).
In 1980 I was restless, recently divorced and joined Bechtel for an assignment in Saudi Arabia. I worked in Contracts Management and in the subsequent years I have continued to work in the Construction Engineering field (mostly with Bechtel) in many locations. My strongest competence is in Contracts and Procurement management and I have a lot of years of experience in Australia, Oceania.
