Dale L's Story
After graduating from BHS, I graduated from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. I moved to the University of Houston, where I received my Ph.D. in chemistry. I then went to Rice University, where I continued doing advanced research, and finally to the University of California-Berkeley. I took a permanent position in research with the University of California (UC)’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley. I was eventually promoted to Senior Research Scientist (Chemistry), the highest level of researcher at UC, where I still remain. I am also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in the Department of Physics, and I have performed collaborative research with the CNRS laboratories in France.
I strongly believe in education, and, for me, it began in the Burkburnett schools. All of my teachers...Expand for more
were well trained and dedicated and all made a valuable contribution to my education. I’ve tried to carry on the tradition with my own students here at UC and was deeply honored when I was awarded the Outstanding Mentor Award from the U.S. Department of Energy for training students.
I enjoy several activities, including travel, music, history, and reading. I also enjoy writing and have authored and edited several books on my favorite subjects in my research specialties. I live north of Berkeley, CA, in San Francisco’s East Bay.
In looking back at my BHS education and what followed, I now understand the importance of perseverance. It is the number one trait that I think people, especially students looking to build a strong future, should have. What life is about is realizing one’s passion and dream and focusing on achieving it.
