David's Story

Life: My Kids 2001 We have 1 son named Barret who is now married to a great daughter-in-law named Jade.We have one Grand daughter Kiley who is three and one on the way(A boy I hope)so we can take him fishing and hunting. UPDATE!!!2002-We now have a grandson named Braden who came to us on May 3,02 and I plan on spoiling them both and hang out at my camp on the river teaching them how to fish and hunt.I have an old mahogany Chris Craft along with a jet boat I have restored and we love cruising up and down the river with the family. My Job I am an Field Const Manager for a firm out of Jersey building and repairing Cooling Towers.I have 5 more years until I retire from all of this traveling so I can relax at my camp on the river.Give us a call everybody,we will light the pit, burn some meat and talk about the good ole days when we were dumb and crazy. UPDATE!!!2005.....Now semi-retired,freelancing on the side, divorced(which was a surprise)met Petey Blair in Winslow,Arizona who has the same interests as I and I conned her into moving here.Building a new house near the lake which will soon be finished by mid August, started drag racing and enjoying the hell out of it,own a private bar(Club Bilbo)which is becoming the hottest place in town.Restoring my old Chris Craft again along with jet boats, motorcycles, wave runners and anything else I can get my hands on.I still have the camp which I call my fresh water hangout and the new house is the salt water hangout.Due to a promotion my son and his family now live in Lafayette so this gives me a reason to fire up the old Indian and ride over for a visit.Come by and drink a cold one and we will talk about the good ole days. update 2006=Got married to Petey and having a blast!Went to Cabo for our honeymoon and will return on a regular basis.I now have 9 cars and 4 motorcycles,my wife says I am going thru a middle age crisis.I enjoy fixing them up and drag racing.I belong to the Harleys Owners Group as Activities Director and we now use Club Bilbo as the club house.Any of you guys have a Harley come see us.Petey left the railroad and now sells real estate and I went and got my license to mortgage so if you need a house and financing in one package come see us.I have gotten back into hunting and enjoying it.The grandkids are growing fast and its fun being with them.Looking forward to 2007 and wish everyone has a Happy New Year!! LATER!!!! 2007 Update--Finally retired!!Some company out of Kansas made me an offer on my company I just could not refuse.Petey and I just returned from Riviera Maya and had a great time snorkeling and hanging out at the pool.We liked it so much I had a pool installed complete with full enclosure, waterfall and bar table in the water at the house! We just got us a 1960 Chris Craft wooden ski boat to replace the one we lost in the hurricane.Grandkids are now 8 and 5 years old,boy is time flying by now!!Barret has just been promoted and transferred to Houston and divorced.Looking forward to seeing everyone at the next reunion perhaps a 35 yr meet?? LATER!!!! 2008 Update--Petey and I are enjoying retirement but I still dabble in a few things.Petey still sells real estate for Century 21 Bono and I Started another small business and also recently purchased a hair salon??? and thinking about opening a bait/beer store on a piece of an island I got ahold of.None of which keeps me from taking a nap every day and getting in the way of our Breakfast Club at Southern Spice and our weekly board meeting which is held every Friday at Chastains Oyster Bar with Carla Griffin.Getting ready for deer and duck hunting with Barney Harper and Tommy Hymel and the gang who we haven't hunted together since high school and having a blast talking about the good ole days.Petey and I are trying to do things now that we know as we get older we will not be able to do later if we put it off such as scuba diving this summer in the Honduras with Barney and his wife Belinda and I still would like to try my hand at surfing but at 280 lbs I dont know if the surf board will hold me! (lol !)Life does not get any better than this and I thank the man upstairs every day for it.Later Everyone!!! 08 year end update: has been a great year! Our hunting is ongoing and the duck hunting has done well with my brother in law Lee Roth.My scuba diving with Barney had to be cancelled due to some ear problems that may occur should I go in deep water which is a let down. But we found out from John Hood there is a great place in Key West we can snorkel for lobsters whereas we do not have to go so deep.So off we go!! My son Barret and his girlfriend Carrie are building a new house in Houston and this weekend we are going to the bike rally in Galveston just to see everything and support the rebuild. The grand kids are getting bigger every time I look at them. We just got back from Cruz the Coast car show in Biloxi and had a good time. People ask if I have a bucket list but I tell them I am living mine every day enjoying everything and everybody! Oh by the way I now own a bar b que sauce company, pitbosssauce and now at a local grocer near you and getting larger by the day.Try it out if you get a chance. The Barber shop is holding its own with Hank Julian at the helm which by the way we named it The Grateful Head (a whole new hair experience)which has been remodeled with all kinds of rock and roll memorabilia.Come by for a hair cut or just to visit. Later Everyone Have a Merry Christmas and a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009!!! 2009 UPDATE-This past 2009 could not have been better. We went on the lobster trip in Key West but we waited till the last day of the season and no lobsters were found.Key West is very nice and looking forward to next year.We went to Vegas where we have our timeshare and had a good time going to the circus Del something or other but was interesting. Went back to the Galveston Bike Rally with Barret and Carrie and rented beach condos and had a blast. Also revisited the Cruise The Coast car show with my new car in Biloxi and the weather was nice with little rain.We also went to the Mamou Mardis Gras with our bikes camping out At Chicoh Park in our motorhome which by the way is one of the nicest parks I have seen in a long time.We are going back in 2010.One of my old clients needed an inspector in Phoenix so we spent the rest of the year and the holidays there enjoying the warm weather. In the future we are going somewhere warm every holiday season as long as we are able. So if anyone is looking to go to a warmer climate for Christmas let us know. Petey is excited about her class reunion coming up in Winslow,Az.and seeing her now 3 grandkids and I am looking forward to their great prime rib that is served in The La Pasado hotel.I hope everyone had a Great 2009 and a Happy New Year and lets see the Saints take home the Big One!GO SAINTs! 2010 UPDATE-Another fantastic year has passed but it just seems like the years are flying by now.We took a break this year and passed on our usual adventures with the car show and bike rallys and just hung out around the house. We enjoyed Peteys class reunion in Arizona and I enjoyed my prime rib at Las posada.Petey switched real estate companies and now works for Safari Real Estate which is a smaller company and a little slower paced.I have been working part time with the company who bought me out in the safety department helping them on a local project. The barber shop, the tool repair company,Bar b q sauce and everything else is holding its own and keeps us busy sometimes which we enjoy.Still messing around with the cars and bikes and just recently put nitrous in the Pit Boss race Car which I will trying out in 2011. Took over the American Legion Bar on 9th st and 2nd ave and having a blast with some of my old classmates dropping in.I have a 700 acre lease near Leesville and Barney Harper,Barry Painter,Bill Painter,Kyle Blackmon and other high school friends deer hunt.We hardly kill any deer but we do kill a lot of alcohol!! Have met a lot of old friends via facebook and looking forward to seeing everyone. The grandkids are getting bigger by the day,Barret and Carrie are doing fine.So the man upstairs has taken very good care of our family and I thank him for it every day! One of our plans is to make the Sturgis bike run in 2011.Tonite we are having our annual afternoon New Years Party The Legion beginning at 5pm for those who do not want to stay out late with the amateurs or just to get things started for the evening.Drop by for a visit and say hi.See ya Next Year!! I hope every one had a good 2010 and Happy New Year to 2011! Come by and see us if you get the chance!! 2011-UPDATE....Its been a year of surprises,I went to the doc for a sore shoulder from driving golf balls across the river and while I was there I scheduled my usual stress test and found out I needed 2 stints and I wasn't even feeling bad!( a family genetic thing) It was a one day in and out thing but it gives you a wake up call and you realize you are not here for a long time just a good time! The company that bought me out offered me a part time position as a const mgr working locally so now I am doing that and enjoying being back.Petey went to work for Engle Safari Realty and has been really busy. The grand kids are growing ever so fast and Barret and Carrie are still in Houston.we just got back from Sturgis riding motorcycles and seeing Mt Rushmore and all of the sights was very nice.Barret and I had a blast. Looking forward to returning next year.I sold The Grateful Head Barber shop to a girl who wanted it badly. The tool business is going great along with the waverunner repair which by the way I now have one of the fastest waverunners around.I look like Mr Potato Head with my legs flying behind me! LOL Pit Boss Sauce is holding its own and I am discussing with some people about expanding our horizons.Due to the deterioation of the neighborhood we had to close the ...Expand for more
American Legion Bar but we do open Club Bilbo as a private place for our friends on Mon,Tues, and Saturdays so drop by for a visit and a cold one. Also we are having one helluva Halloween party Oct 29 costume only.We also just returned from visiting my only direct living relative on my Father's side up in Maryland and went to the different graveyards and found my Great Great Grandfather's tombstone.Next year I am bringing Barret and we are going to rent motorcycles and I am going to show him what we found looking up the family tree. The Miles Family has extensive roots going back to the 1600's coming over from Wales on my Dad's side.We had a mini reunion for Class Of 74 at Amazens and we had a blast seeing everyone Im looking forward to another one.Im headed out today to go deer huntin on our lease so I hope everyone had a great 2011 and have a Happy New Year and lets thank the man upstairs for allowing us to be here.Later Everybody! 2012-UPDATE: This year has been another great year for Petey and I.Everything has been rolling along but now a days the days are moving too fast!Seems like every time I wake up its Friday which is not a bad thing but it could slow down a little. We had a class mini reunion at Club Bilbo which went great! Saw people we have not seen in a long time and caught up.Our 2012 Halloween Bash had over 125 people in attendance! Went with Barret and Cari and the the grandkids to Destin and had a good time.Petey and I purchased a motorhome and have been having a nice time traveling to Crusin The Coast car rally in Biloxi, and just returned from The Lone Star Bike Rally in Galveston. My race car now runs in the 9's and you have to have a NHRA license which at my age requires a EKG and with my stents I cannot pass so I am going to have to sell it,Which is ok because I fulfilled my goals and it was fun but its a young mans game going any faster for safety reasons.Thats why you always hear me saying if you are wanting to do anything do it NOW! before you wake up one day too old and cannot then regretting it all! I recently have been playing around with wood boats and this year purchased a 1960 Higgins which is coming along. The repair shop has tripled in business this year especially the waverunner end of it.Mine runs around 70ish and we are considering breaking the 100M.P.H. mark by installing twin turbos after the winter!(dont need no license for that! lol) Anybody looking to go somewhere for Christmas? We are headed to New Orleans to sip cafe au lait and beneighs and drink scotch in the evenings.I am getting sentimental in my old age because another reason I want to go is because thats where my Mom met my Dad and I want to attend Mass at the Cathedral in Jackson Square on Christmas Day where they used to go and its also the day my Dad passed. Let us know if you want to go.we are on facebook if you need us or go to Club Bilbo Group and check out our next party and check out the pics. Petey and I want to wish Everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New 2013 Year! The man upstairs has been very good to us and our families and we thank him every day for our lives and friends.Take Care everyone see ya in 2013! 2013 was Great!.Petey and I have slowed things down a bit! (yea sure she says!) I have been simplifying a few things such as thinning my herd on cars and motorcycles.Sticking more to the boats and waverunners and hunting. We stayed home this year for Christmas and relaxed for the holidays. Looking to open The Last Chance Daquiri Stop in the Spring with Mike Mcvey.Getting ready for our 40th Class Reunion can you believe it? Its at Jags on the Bayou June 27 and 28th check out Facebook for details.Casual affair with a live band on Saturday and if you are lucky you might get to see me play my harp and pull a few people out of the crowd to join in.Looking forward to seeing everyone there! Once again thanks to The Man upstairs for our lives and friends! 2014-Petey and I enjoying life hanging out around the house.Last Chance Daquiri is up and going so pass by and grab a cold one.Passed on going to the car shows and bike rallys due to just being lazy! lol Got us a spot to tailgate at the McNeese games which is fun visiting everyoneBarret married Cari in Playa Del Carmen and a whole gang flew down for the wedding! We had a great time and really enjoyed everyone.Had a detached retina and had surgery on Halloween Day while we were setting up for our annual party and missed it but everyone had fun.Flew up to see Peteys grandkids in Arizona for Christmas and have no plans for New Years as of yet.As soon as this eye thing is over Look Out because we are going to be ready to go do something and anything! My new saying is :Getting Old Isnt For Sissies!! Have a Happy New Year Everyone and lets look forward to 2015! 2015- Things have slowed down a bit since the eye problem. After 7 surgeries they could not restore my vision but im adjusting to it and on the good side at least it wasnt my gun eye! Makes me more attentive to my driving which by the way according to Petey I needed something to slow me down.lol Heading to New Orleans for Christmas this year.Going to make it a cultural stay instead of my usual trying to drink all of the scotch in the French Quarter. Going to the museum, aquarium, checking out the lights but of course having a toddie or two or three along the way.The grandkids are all grown up Kiley is heading off to college and Braden is Braden hanging out at home with the video games. As soon as this winter passes we are discussing a motorcycle trip checking out the plantations down south. Again we passed on Crusin The Coast but we are going next year including the Lone Star Rally. The Daquiri was doing well till everyone saw what was going on and opened 3 near our location so I am going to close ours also sold my Pit Boss bar b q sauce company which was making me work more than I wanted to..The tool repair is ongoing and we are going to do hydrographing as a side thing.Petey and I are just about to shut everything down and go into full retirement. The thing I have learned about being fully retired is to quit BUYING which is hard for me to do but it will work out.I have my cars and boats and waverunner ready for the summer.I always go into hibernation like an old bear in the winter.I have really enjoyed the warm weather so far this winter.Petey and I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2016 and lets remember our classmates who are no longer with us especially Christine Babineau who recently passed.Take Care everyone hope we get to see you in 2016!!! 2016 This year has flown by even faster thn 2015! Petey is now fully retired and we now get to wake up in the morning look at each other and say what are we going to do today.!lol The tool business is still ongoing but I have a man who runs the whole thing and when are not busy we mess around with my cars, boats and motorcycles. This year we went to the Madisonville La wooden boat festival and my friend who has a Higgins like mine took 3rd place. We traveled to Phoenix for the Christmas holidays andhung out.Bought me a 25ft Chris Craft 1959 model to finally replace the one I lost in the hurricane Rita.Shell be ready for this Summer and we plan on using it to cruise to the Golden Nugget Casino.BArret and Cari are doing great, they just bought a huge home and I cant wait to go see it.Kiley is at LSU and Braden well I hardly hear from him.Kids get older they dont come see Pops but as long as everyone is healthy is what matters.Besides that everything is just rolling along and life goes on.Petey and I wish everyone a greqt 2017 and drop by sometimes and have a scotch or 2 or 3! 2017 As usual this year flew by again! Everyone is doing well.Had a setback this year when my blood sugar went high and a blood clot hung up in my heart while I was playing my harp with Gyth Rigdon which gave me a heart attack. Its all good but put me behind in finishing my 1959 Chris Craft but should be launching in 2018.Barret and Cari bought a new house ,Kiley is a sophmore at LSU and I still havent seen Braden but I did get a pic of him with a cute date for prom.Sold my motorhome and looking for a toyhauler going to do a little more camping with friends.Hanging out and going to concerts at the Nugget.Petey is enjoying her full retirementand her Morgan grandaughter is graduating this year. The other boys are playing sports. My friend Mike corbett bought a house and moved to Deridder with his girlfriend Fran.Been hunting with Phillip Guzzino and Judge Hood which I really enjoy even though the one eye does present its problems but i work around it.LOl. I still cant get away from the cars but im down toto 2 but still have 6 motorcycles.I just like tinkering on them. The tool shop is still going Weylon runs it all now.We even kicked it up a notch and got uniforms the wives were tired of us dragging home greasy clothes!lol I hope everyone is doing well and having a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!Looking forward to seeing anyone in 2018 and remember we are not here for a long time just a good time our long time is almost over with .lol 2018 writing this a little late usually do this at the beginning of the year. This was a good quiet year.Peteys granddaughter came to stay with us and attended college in California playing softball. We had a great summer and it was nice to have her around and let Granny spend some much wanted time with her.Still havent had time to put the Cajun Cooler Teaux in the water but did have members of our antique Boat Club over for a weekend and we took a cruise up to Sam HOUSTON in our wood boats..Every year keeps coming faster and faster seems there is not enough hours in the day and every time I wake up its friday which I guess is a good thing..Looking to forward to our 45th mini reunion on june 8 2019.Have plans on going to Belize in September to visit a friend who retired on his sailboat there..ive maxed my text here....
