Dan's Story

Life Over the past 10 - 15 years I've had the good fortune of visiting some of the most astonishing sites around the world like the Taj Mahal and the giant statue of Christ on a mountaintop in Rio de Jeniro. And now that my current and primary residence is in Arizona, what could be more amazing to see than the vast vistas of the Grand Canyon! During that same time I feel very fortunate to have met some wonderful people including my ideal mate whom I married in May of 2005. We are both very happy living in the warm Phoenix climate and will always keep a place somewhere nice and warm so we don't have to shovel snow in the winter although we now also have a much cooler weather secondary residence in America's Home Town, Prescott, AZ which is a wonderful place to get away to with a short 100 mile trip from our Phoenix area home. Back at the end of 2003 through midyear 2004 I sampled retirement from the corporate world in order to do a makeover on our Phoenix home but soon became a little too bored so it was back to work for me. After a brief relocation to the Northeast for work through the winter of 2006/2007, and again experiencing the nastiness of the Northeast winter, it became abundantly clear that the greater Phoenix area is where I want to live, particularly in the winter months (I forgot how much I disliked the winters up there!). I am now back to being semi-retired and running two small business that we started a couple of years ago, one a real estate holdings company and the other a muscle car restoration business that takes decades old muscle cars and makes them brand new again. As for kids, both of my children are grown and fully employed in the business world after completing undergrad studies at Wake Forest and Villanova, respectively. My son works at well known food and personal products company while my daughter started off as a second generation IBMer and now works at Deloitte. My son moved back to the Northeast after living in the DC area for nearly ten years while my daughter moved back to coastal Massachusetts in June 2021. They are both doing great and and my daughter now has two children making my wife and me grandparents....life is good! I am still an older car enthusiast and went from dabbling in the restoration business in past years to now owning a full service end to end restoration company that is internationally well known within the collector car world where we bring factory performance cars back to their former glory. A number of our restored cars are scattered around North America including all the way up into Alaska and Canada. I purchased a restoration/hobby shop In the late spring of 2011 and we now have 6 full time employees working on a steady stream of cars that continue to come in each year. Th...Expand for more
e website for the shop is amcmusclecars dot com Living in Arizona provides ample opportunity to enjoy the sunshine and pursue my antique automotive passion and it is hard to believe that the cars we all learned how to drive in back in our high school days are now full fledged antiques. Additionally my wife and I try to hike and spend time in the fabulous Arizona outdoors area as often as possible as well as travel around the country and into Mexico and Europe as often as possible. We try to do multiple RV camping and hiking trips per year and hope to continue hiking into Grand Canyon for as long as our health allows us to stay active. Overall and despite some unexpected and temporarily unpleasant twists and turns, life has turned out to be very enjoyable through maintaining good health, staying fit by exercising regularly, meeting new people from other parts of the country and around the world while experiencing things I never would have imagined were even remotely possible way back in 1971...seems like another life time ago when you think about it. I hope to stay in touch with classmates as well as former co-workers going forward and look forward to hearing from many of you in the future or least be sure to look us up if you are ever in the Phoenix area! Warm Regards, Dan Curtis amx39068 at gmail dot com School Norwell high school was pretty much a blur to me. By the spring of 9th grade I was working at the Club Car washing dishes and busing tables and then moved right on to bagging and clerking at good old Stop and Shop right up through and after high school graduation. It was nice to always be able to support myself and have my own car but if I had it to do over again I would have certainly enjoyed that time of my life more. Nonetheless, things turned out great so I guess everything works out in the end. College I attended Bentley and Northeastern part time while working and becoming a parent and got the equivalent of an MBA through IBM executive education. Workplace Well after putting in 30+ plus years with Big Blue and hitting the VP level, I fully retired from IBM at the end of 2003 After taking nearly 7 months off, I first went back to work as an SVP with a smaller management consulting firm out of Florida The travel got to be a bit much so after being recruited into a senior executive role with Siemens for a couple of years followed by short stint as a SVP for EMC and 3 more years as the America's General Manager for yet another IT services company, I decided to jump off the corporate band wagon and do my own thing as President and CEO or two small companies. Never a dull moment!!!! Military The military lottery in 1971 is the only lottery that I have ever won so there was no military service for me!
