Retired in 2001 after 35 yrs w Dept of Interior as Teacher and Administrator w BIA Schools (18 yrs), and AV Specialist in Public Relations with the Bureau of Land Management (17 yrs), living first in Ukpeagvik (Point Barrow) and then Fairbanks, Alaska. In 2001, Moved to Schierstein - Wiesbaden, Germany, living in the local community and singing, in German, in 3 different choral groups, plus traveling and finding my Norwegian relatives. Moved back to Fairbanks in 2004 and became a "professional volunteer" for local community projects and groups (Pioneers of Alaska, NARFE, Son's Of Norway, KIWANIS, FTVRR) and Choral Director for our Church, directing, arranging, and composing Sacred music. Built a city park, and created a Non-profit to restore and operate the very first Steam Locomotive in Alaska, an 1899 Porter. Retired from all responsibilities 3/01/13 and emigrated to Anchorage, Alaska, to be closer to family. Now I have time to be a Grandpa (3 kids & 5 grandkids, + 2 grand dogs). Somehow found the time to join a new church and choir, and accompany, on guitar/accordian/piano.and Ukulele Still do a bit of composing and arranging. Cancer battle, began in 2011, has been completed (10 years clean as of 5/19/21 and looking forward to many more years. Currently am administrator for community garden with 40 gardeners in 55 beds! brother found my tassel from commencement and it now hangs from the rear view mirror. She still runs, on the tires purchased from Ballard Sears in 1958!, I finally had to replace the tubes in two of the tires, in 2021, due to faulty valves, Annie is part human. We celebrated our 55TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, in Anchorage on June 18, 2021, and continue to enjoy life in Alaska and traveling, plus, thanx to ANCESTRY.COM, making contact with new family members that we did not know existed. Some of them live in Puget Sound area, and for two years now we have traveled down to unite with first and second cousins. I found out that besides Norse, Dutch, Scotch and Irish ancestry, I also am Swedish; major culture shock! Several of my cousins are also working on the "tree" and we actually have visited my ancestral home in Norway! Became a COVID crossover in 2021 due to exposure at the Bicycle shop in Port Orchard. Recovery took awhile, but back on feet now. Made it to the reunion w class of 61/62 together. WHAT A FUN TIME. Became an Octogenarian on January 19, 2023 w a Hawaiian motif party and friends, including former students from Utkeagvik, and family including ALL my brothers. Can't wait for the next party. We live 15 minutes from the Anchorage Airport. Give us a call if you're coming this way we love visitors.. Despite suggestions, I am not on Facebook; I only do email: My wife LaVonne, is on Facebook, so I can be contacted through her. or classmates.com!
