Dan's Story
Dan is from Flint, Michigan. He graduated from from Beecher High School in 1955. Dan later attended Flint Community College ("JC"), Flint, Michigan (Pre-Vet Med) , Michigan State University (BS Veterinary Science), Michigan State University (MSc Veterinary Pathology), Michigan State University (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine), East Lansing Michigan, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (PhD - Nutritional Biochemistry & Metabolism), Cambridge , Massachusetts. He received his ACVP Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology in 1975. He was a member of the research faculty (Nutritional & Toxicological Pathology) at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY from 1969 to1974. He was a faculty research, teaching and diagnostic pathologist at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana and Adjunct Professor of Pathology at Indiana University Medical School (Purdue University Campus) from 1974 to 2005. Dan married Patricia Cusack (from Ireland) at Michigan State University in 1964. They have 2 sons (Michael Patrick & Brian David), a daughter (Susan Marie), and 9 grandchildren.
Dan and his wife Pat have a passion for sailing. Following Dan's retirement from Purdue University in May of 2005, they took their 34 foot Catiline sailboat ("Weal Sea") on a 15-month, 7,000-mile round trip cruise from the Port of Hammond, Indiana on Lake Michigan to the Bahamas in the Caribbean via the Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, the Erie Canal, the Hudson River, the Atlantic coast and the Intercoastal Waterway (ICW) to the Exuma Islands in the Bahamas, and then back via the Trent-Severan Waterway across Ontario, Canada.
