Dan's Story

After school I went to San Francisco with $75 for a construction job.(its a funny story not enough room here to tell) Then to Salt Lake City and back to Ill. for some college, National Gaurd, and good times. Then in 88 I went out west for a railroad job, where we were moved around to Vallentine, Ne.; Rapid City South Dakota; Cheyenne Wy, and finally to Scottsbluff Ne. where I am today as an Engineer. I haul coal from Wy. I have had the honor to be Lori's husband for 20 years. We have 4 kids. 3 of which are geniuses.(this is documented by one of the two tests given by a psychiatrist that mensa accepts)To be a member of mensa you need to have an IQ in the top 2% of the world. My oldest is Amanda and is in college in our town. She is very talented artistically and people have offered to pay her for drawing portraits of their family members. Kara is a Senior in High School and is an exceptional athlete and is being recruited by a lot of schools. She will be Valdictorian and got an early admittance to West Point Military Acadamy, and also to Air Force Acadamy. Getting into an Acadamy is a big deal but getting an early "letter of assurance" only goes to the most highly qualified candidates. My son Giles has an IQ in the top .1% of the world. In fact the mensa admissions lady was impressed with his score. He taught himself to read before kindergarten. He has the highest scores in his school and has gotten awards for math at the state competition. He also is a STATE band qualifying saxophone player. The jury is still out on my youngest son Gavin but his teachers both at elementary and Sunday school have told us that he is intelligent and inuitive and can be counted on to answer most questions correctly. He is also the most like me temperamentally and fiercely protective of his mother so sometimes he and I have our go- rounds. Back about 11 years ago I started studying world views.(religions) It took a lot of work, time, reading and thinking. I studied Buddhism, Hinduism,Islam,Mormon,Jehovas Wittness, Wiken, Atheism, and Biblical Christianity. I wanted to see what matches with reality, the world, and what proof there is for them. My premise was that if there was a God he/she would have enough evidence for me to be convinced of who he was. If your going to sell me something and not back your claims up and I buy it on blind faith then I would be a fool. With this perspective I found evolution is SCIENTIFICALLY impossible. What we know now of the cell and dna and the laws of physics there must be a creator. Now who is the creator? I as many many before me have found it is the Bible and only the Bible that is backed up with history and laws of probability so any reasonable, open minded seeker would see it has to be from God. Also the ressurection of Jesus is the most backed up fact in all of history. I then began to study the bible and now agree with what it says about how to get to heaven. I don't claim to be better than anyone, in fact I'm not. I realize that and take the work of Jesus as the FREE payment for my sins period. Jesus and only Jesus gets you to heaven. Its ...Expand for more
not how you live (because everyone is a jerk its just that some people hide it better)It's also not how you live after taking Jesus' free payment because he saved Dan he did not erase and make a new me. I was the same guy I was the day before I took Jesus as my savior, God did not erase and create a new me. I still speed(at times) and still cuss(at times) ect... the point is when you really understand God's definition of sin you see no one can totally stop sinning. Also I can never "do stuff" to pay for them and neither can you. God wants everyone to come to heaven. People see him as perfect love but he is also perfect justice so he can't ignore sin. If I killed your family and the judge let me go, we would see that that's not right. How much more would a perfect God see that justice requires a payment. So the Bible tells us God took human form and came to earth to pay the payment and appease His standard so he then can let us dirtbags into heaven. I also had a problem understanding that just taking the payment and living how I wanted seemed too easy. That's because I was misunderstanding "Free and Easy" The bible says salvation is free like if I give you a car, it would be free to you but someone did the work to forge the metal and put the rivets in the right place, paint it ect... see there was work done on the car but it was Given to you. Just as the bible explains the blood of a holy and innocent god taking the lashing and for the first time being apart from the trinity taking the punishment for our sins, there was work done to get us the "FREE GIFT" It was not EASY. The bible calls it free not easy. That's why Jesus can say "I am the way, the truth , the life, NO MAN comes to the father but by me" Why? because sin must be paid for, the 'good news' is we don't have to pay for it ourselves; we have a rich daddy God who did it for us. Both my parents died from cancer, and 2 years ago they found it in my wife. Surgeries and a year of hard cemo caused me to study cancer and it is amazing how much they don't know about the body. It is so nice to know where you are going after death. I don't mean to bum anyone out who may still be reading this. I'm going back to see people and have a great time. I am curious that if any of you knew the biblical gospel in high school. It would be cool to hear from you. I won't bring God up this weekend, but if anyone wants to talk world views (agree or disagree either way) feel free. You won't offend me and adults can throw ideas on the table and wrestle with them and walk away dealing with each other with the respect of someone with human dignity. Wow that was alot of babbeling. Thanks. ps. Im there to see ya all not to preach so lets have a good time. I have had the honor of being Lori's husband for 20 years. She stayed home with the kids until they entered school then Lori went to the University of Nebraska nursing school where she graduated 1st in her class and became a registered nurse, and I proudly call her my wife. There Dave you asked for my story, thanks for asking. Looking forward to hearing yours and having a good time.
