My Spouse
Rebecca Lazear and I worked together in the book publishing business. Consequently Cindy Boyer (CT'65) and I were speedily divorced.
My Job
I retired in 2001 as editor-at-large at Time Inc. -- what I thought was the last stop in a long career in book and magazine publishing. Then along came the New York Times, which asked me to be its first Public Editor, or Ombudsman. I served a term-certain 18 months, then returned to writing books, so...Expand for more
mething I'd longed to do for all the years I was an editor.. I've published five; the last one, Great Fortune, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in history.
