Dan's Story

I've been living in Pepe'ekeo since 1996. I take care of athletes' health concerns to pay the mortgage. In 2006 I became a licensed massage therapist, so I incorpoate a good deal of manual therapy working as an athletic trainer. My wife works as a school administrator for a public charter school located next to Hawaii Volcanoes Nat'l Park. I don't get back to California very much-- usually once every four or five years. The changes have amazed me each time I visit. So far that world hasn't reached Pepeekeo, but changes are taking place nonetheless. As far as my interests in high school, I played Slo Pitch softball with friends while I was still on the Mainland...Expand for more
. Then I got into officiating before attending San Jose State. Now I have a hard time getting out of bed due to old injuries. Because of the manual therapy I perform, I don't play music much anymore. I did play bass in a group of teachers at Overfelt High School every other year called Blue Max and the Flashbacks. We played 50s rock and raised a lot of money for scholarships. My wife and I didn't have children, but I have 600+ student-athletes I care for about 60 hours each week. I feel I've been raising teenagers for the past two decades. Yes, I'm dealing with the kids of some of the kids I treated years ago. I'm guessing a third generation isn't too far off .
