Dan's Story
Here's a brief look at my life and learnings since high school.
Went to college in New Jersey, out to San Francisco to work, got married, back to grad school (MBA) in
Connecticut, down to DC/Virginia to work, up to Rochester, NY, where we raised our two kids and where I worked for a few companies over the next 20 years, got divorced, then out to San Diego where I currently live.
Most of my career was "the corporate thing" -- planning/accounting/ controller/CFO plus head of HR -- and the entrepreneurial thing -- not being an entrepreneur myself, but being the wingman to an entrepreneur, loving that environment... all of which taught me to listen to others and to be able to live with uncertainty, two things I think I've finally learned to do. I now do financial and business consulting to early stage companies and to later-stage companies going through some kind of transition.
Over the years, I've been with both big public companies and small startup companies, and things in-between. et to do when you're not working and whom you do it with, and maintaining your own personal integrity regardless of what else might go on around you.
Two wonderful kids: Adam, who taught school for 5 years out here in San Diego, then went back to graduate school in Philadelphia, got his Masters in Public Administration in '11 and now getting an international MBA in Spain; and Kayla, living and working in Denver, learning about life and love, returned to college when she was ready for it... enjoying it, doing well and getting ready to graduate end of 2012..
I'm also in LinkedIn, pretty easy to find, if you want any of those kinds of "resume" details.
In my own spare time, I love to be outdoors, or read a good book (Grisham, Clancy, or a good biography), or play piano (from Beethoven to pop to the Rolling Stones to some down and dirty blues), or get into a deep discussion with anyone on almost anything, or make wisecracks to lighten an overly serious mood in meetings. I don't get to do any of those things enough... except maybe the wisecracks.
Would love to hear from classmates. Feel free to contact me thru here or LinkedIn. Good vibrations, and all the
best to you.
