Dan's Story
The story wizard says,"How do you hope friends and (classmates) remember you?" I knew immediately a few words of explanation were due.
High school; man I had a bad attitude. Graduated in the bottom fourth of my class and couldn't cared less, just let me get out on my own. I joined the Navy and did four years active (7-65 to 7-69). I spent my time totally on shore duty at Submarine Base Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Electrical maintenance was my specialty; along with being a LOX charging team member. I also worked for Special Services showing movies at the base theater. That four years did alot in helping my attitude and outlook on life.
I did another six years in the Missouri Air National Guard, (139th TAG), at St. Joe. They needed someone to headup their Disaster Preparedness Mobility Team and play NBC warfare expert. Yeah! I had a need for some adventure and excitement.
I've been a Industrial Electrician since I left the Navy. I've been with Grasis Corp., Lafarge Corp. and now the Kansas City, Missouri Water Department. I took a Buyout/Retirement from Lafarge in 2003 and taught as a Substitute...Expand for more
teacher for a year in the North Kansas City District.
Oh! Did I mention that I went back to school. Received my A.A. from Maple Woods and my B.S. in Management from Park and this time I was the top male graduate in my class. Don't you know our old teachers were flipping out when they heard I was sitting at their old desks. Not really, I used my own experience to let students know there is always hope and time if you want to change.
Speaking of students, my wife, Marilyn is from the class of '71'. We met in 1968 and married in Feb. 1970. We have four kids: daughter, Jami 42 and she has three daughters; daughter, Jodi 40; son, Brian 37 and he has three daughters; and then my last daughter Kyleigh 10.
I retired as a Electrical Supervisor from the Water Department and Marilyn works for The Home Depot at Tiffany Springs. We like to hangout with friends, go out to eat, shop, go dancing to the oldies, being around family, playing golf and finding old and new friends online.
