Dana's Story

12 December 2008 I moved from Kingsville to Corpus Christi during my sophomore year and graduated from Calallen HS in 1983. The day after graduation, I moved back to Kville to attend Texas A&I and graduated from there in 1986. I met my first husband, Rodney Ware (Calallen '81), my junior year of high school. We married in 1987, divorced in 1993, and had no children. I have lived in San Angelo and worked for the IRS for the past 21 years. I plan on retiring in 6 years, at age 50. Yikes! I married my current husband, Tommy Cmerek (Miles HS '75), in 1995. He's a cotton & milo farmer and we live in a small farming community near San Angelo. We have a 10 (11, on Dec 25th) year old daughter, Shelby Noel. She's in 5th grade, Girl Scouts, softball, soccer and attends a private school in San Angelo. She wants to be a vet when she grows up and says she wants to always live with her Mommy & Daddy. I'm sure she'll change her mind about the latter when she's a teenager! My hobbies have continued to be going to concerts and vacationing. Our next big trip will be to the Dakotas in the summer. We're looking forward to seeing Mount Rushmore and the sites along the way (we'll be driving). Shelby and I have a plan to visit all 50 states during our lifetime. We've still got about 35 to go! For those of you who remember my brother Don (HM King '80): He's divorced and living in the Austin area and is a tile contractor. He has a son, Chris, who is graduating from A&M Corpus Christi next weekend. He worked and paid his way through college and has finally done it. I'm so very proud of him! For those of you who remember our parents: Our Dad retired from Southwestern Bell about 9 years ago and they live at their ranch n...Expand for more
ear Bandera and raise cattle. Now, the Story Wizard stuff: The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Pat Payne (HM King '81?), because he was my fist love. We dated part of my freshman & sophomore years, until I moved to Corpus. I did run into him a few times when I went back to Kville for college, but he was married by then with several kids. My obsession is Def Leppard, Joe Elliot in particular! I'm also especially fond of my dogs, Milo and Sunny. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my kitchen and add on a huge walk in closet, just for me. My dream home would be CLEAN. If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to my church, then spend the rest on family, 2 of my coworkers, friends and then ME, ME, ME!. Dorm life stunk at A&I. The food was terrible, my 1st roomate was a psycho on probation for shooting a San Antonio police officer and my 2nd roomate was a George Strait obsessed fan. (I disliked country music then and now.) Luckily, I only had to stay in the dorms for one semester! My first job was at Model Market, where I got paid minimum wage to check groceries. What I remember most about it was the smell of the stockroom, a crush on a coworker, having to study the sale ad for a weekly test and flicking lighted match sticks across the counters for entertainment with other employees late at night. The teacher I would most like to see is Mrs Howell from the 1st grade in San Antonio. I will always remember her carrying me and riding with me in the ambulance when I was hurt on the playground. She didn't mind that she got blood all over her dress and held me or my hand the entire time, until my parents showed up at the hospital. That was the first of several future rounds of stiches!
