Dana's Story
Most of recent history has taken place here in Central MD where I have lived since 1985. Grad school for me was the University of MD Business School where I was one of their University Fellows. My resume is varied; I have run a homeless shelter; managed a college-level baseball team and spent most of the past decade working as a project manager at the Federal Aviation Administration working on air traffic and weather information systems. We should add "entrepreneur" to the list. A lot of the people in corporate America do not like highly intelligent people and make uncomfortable for them in the workplace, so I tried to escape by starting my own business. But starting out in a recession with a product that is hard to understand did not work.
Along the way, I met my wonderful 2nd husband, Jeff, a software engineer who likes music and star...Expand for more
gazing and helping others. Even boring tasks improve when I do them with Jeff. We have started travelling overseas recently; this year we went to Croatia on a cruise. I just loved it!! In pursuit of some balance in my life, I have also been swimming almost daily; writing for a newspaper and volunteering at a pet shelter and consultant to people starting businesses. I think these habits might change soon; the entrepreneurial urge is prompting me to start into business again. This time I plan to buy a franchise that I will spend significant time building over the next few years.
January2017 A year ago, I bought a College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving franchise for Central MD. I opened up in late May and my business is doing well. The startup was very hard but it is becoming more enjoyable now that I am operating and growing the business
